Everton (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Another frustating one that we should've won.

Played well 1st 20 mins, should've been 2-0 up with Bernardo missing a good chance and then got hit with a sucker punch. Poor defending and not one person pressing the ball to allow them to cross.

Started the 2nd half well, Savinho looked bright and Haaland should score the penalty. After that we were utter garbage. No urgency, just side to side passing, it was way too easy for Everton to defend. Foden offered nothing in the 10 role, Kovacic, Lewis and Bernardo just playing to side to side with no penetration. Such a flat performance and I'm starting to wonder when we'll win again now.

I am so sick of hearing that transfers will sort it, and that eventually we'll get the breaks.

The only thing that sorts this is a change of leadership. We are possibly the weakest team in that league currently. No ifs, no buts, absolute fact.

If Guardiola stays, nothing changes, and make no mistake about it we could easily be relegated.
Oh do fuck off ,glory hunter i am guessing

Cant be bothered ripping into the team again so I will have a pop at the twat on amazon co commentary.

The nerve of the **** to have a go at the fans being quiet and empty seats. Its a boxing day lunchtime match and it looked pretty full to me. Also the team need to give something for the fans to shout about, difficult when the ball is simply passed back and fourth between centre backs.

He then has a go at our players on no fewer than three occations for going down too easily, including the penalty, they were all clear fouls you prick.

Who the fuck was this tit?
Supposedly there's an option to mute the commentary on amazon but I couldn't find it. Muted sound completely in second half. Shouldn't have to do this but it's not the first time. Any twat of a commentator criticising paying fans should be kicked off imo. I wonder, when was the last time Statler and Waldorf on today paid money to watch a football match.

A slightly better performance I feel, though the four against two breakaway for Everton near the end of the game could easily have seen another defeat.

The midfield, with Phil and Kovacic, was better. Savinho was my MOM and I was pleased that the second half saw him going to the byline on his right, rather than cutting in on to his left. It is pretty clear that some of the team remain not fully fit.

City need to get back to basics!

Far be it from me to tell the greatest football manager of all time what to do, but in my personal experience, when things aren't working, instead of trying to figure out where the problem is, I find that untangling & reconstructing everything from scratch always reveals where the issues lie & what needs to be done to resolve them.

I've said this before several times, & I'll say it again, City’s current formation & tactics have been figured out, so instead of trying to do things better without Rodri who made it work, we need to strip everything down & go back to basics, which is Pep's famed 4-3-3 with players sticking to the formation.

Until Bernardo's opener, both Lewis & Gvardiol played as full backs, & Everton were pinned back as they had zero space out wide to launch counter-attacks into. Things were developing nicely until the goal, but for whatever reason, Lewis moved back inside & Gvardiol became more advanced, which led to Everton springing counter after counter into the wide spaces vacated by our inverted full backs.

The inverted defender formation worked well when we had the best CDM at our disposal, but we can't keep trying to do the same thing game after game, leaving ourselves vulnerable to individual errors, when we're overrun in defence.

The time is nigh for Baldy to play to our current Rodri-less strengths & rebuild our confidence & form from the defence, forward. We still possess the tools, but we're not utilising them as effectively as we should.

The question going into the second half of the season? Is the perpetually over-thinking Baldy, a man for turning?

You know its been a dodgy day when Pep in his after match press conference starts the sentence in English and ends the sentence speaking Spanish.

Nah, theyre totally shot mate. Gave so much for 7 years. Pep needs to stop playing the old guard, even as subs. they’re finished.
They're not 'totally shot' this narrative is getting tiring. Gvardiol/Lewis have been one of the biggest culprits and they're 'young'

It's injuries/Peps system/individual errors/squad size & quality.
This game, Bournemouth,Brighton,Utd we should've won. The old guard are fine, unfortunately they're having to play more games than expected and also more importantly the system of high line and 3 at the back requires legs in midfield.
