Everton (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I don't understand the Kev hate personally, he helped us win the title last season.

I think he deserve a bit more patience to get back into form, I think he looked more energetic and direct than Foden. I can't see much difference to how Kev normally plays, he always had high turnovers and Pep always said he expected kev to play further forward towards the end of his career.

It's not 'hate' at all. It's just the penny finally dropping for many Blues that he's done at this level.
He's been on the decline for 18 months or more and people on here have been in denial.
It happens to all players, it just hurts more when it's one of the greats.

On the positive side, we didn't lose. Now just 12 points needed for safety target of 40 points !

Given the opposition, I am astounded to say that I actually feel that. In the last ten minutes, I thought, this is going to be another match like United, isn't it? A match that we dominate, more or less completely, and then throw away.

Can someone that is not influenced by hate give me a proper match update? Did not have time to see the game today as the girl wanted to go shopping, but I thought it maybe was a good idea to follow the game on the matchday thread BOY! was I wrong the only thing that was update was how bad we where playing and how most of the players where shit. I have followed man city since the Niall Quinn days and it can be a lot worse.

Wasn’t Kev injured for 3 months? It was Foden that won us the title last season, stepping up. His fall off this season is dramatic
Kev came back and had a huge impact, For me Rodri was our best player of last season, Foden too was class.

awful result really. Leicester match aint gonna be any better. we should rip apart the promoted Leicester but it will be a real fight and if they attack our defence bit more we will concede at least 2.

these players currently dont fight for the shirt, I think something is rotten in the dressing room and even the effort is not there due to this.

Think he still has a lot to offer, like modric at RM.

Ortega - he’s ok, but no worldie.
Gvardiol - decent
Akanji - squad player now (We need another cb)
Ake - was excellent today
Rico - nope. He’s not good enough if we want to win titles.
Kova - squad player
Bernardo - time to go and thanks for the service, you’ve been awesome
Phil - great with the ball - invisible without it… can anyone tell me when he’s tacked a player ?
Doku - wank! More interested in the tricks than crossing it into the box. Get rid
Savinho - not ready, not enough end product.
Earl - needs support.

Apart from that we’re doing alright?

I’m happy with a point considering our current form.
Everton might not be a great footballing team but they are well organised and make it difficult for you to score.
They’ve now drawn with Arsenal, Chelsea and us recently.
I saw some improvement but more importantly I saw players actually trying, which in some games recently I’ve questioned.
This isn’t gonna be a quick easy fix and we’re gonna have more games like this, along with some losses.
Like it or not the only way we’re improving the current situation is to get new players in in January and the summer.
Echeverri and Bobb coming in will help with the energy and our overall pace of our play as well.
Piss poor planning from the club have put us in this situation with half the first team starters all ageing at the same time.
Add the injuries we’ve had to that and you’re seeing the current shitshow.
We will turn this round but it’ll be slow and painful to watch.

He had a goal and two assists the other week , he is not the problem, nobody can do what he does and he is our best bet to create something , he cant run so people should stop using that against him, we have enough young ones for that , bringing him on today to give us a chance was the right thing to do

The Haaland problem is staring us in the face , he’s great when we are at 95-100% , but a liability when a team is struggling in a team in how we play at the moment , how we are at the MOMENT, he did absolutely fuck all yet again - can’t even put penalties away now.Peak Sergio pisses all over him , Sergio hunted opportunities.

Because pep has said it more than once
Stop talking rubbish. The goal we conceded today was because Akanji went to play a ball and missed. That’s not because of injury. I’m guessing you haven’t been to a game at the Etihad this season because if you did you wouldn’t be making excuses. Ake isn’t fit but our best player today. No excuse for doing the basics. Niggles my arse.

I thought we looked better for the first twenty minutes or so. Not vintage, but we kept our shape better, created a bit more space in midfield and moved the ball quicker. That gave Savinho and Doku a run at isolated full backs, rather than the full back and two midfielders, which is how it’s looked in the last 2 months.

It’s pretty clear though that we lack pace, energy and physicality in midfield. Once Everton adjusted, their big lumps looked fitter and stronger and we reverted to packing midfield and short 5 yard dink and dunk stuff that slowed us down and gave Everton more time to adopt the traditional Dyche 8 at the back stance. We still created the odd chance after that, but we looked far less dangerous overall and because we still have a calamity in us, it didn’t feel very secure - as demonstrated by the 4-on-2 at the end, which a team with a forward line anything like premier league standard would have tapped in. Fortunately, it was Everton.

A marginal improvement, though big concerns remain and with the squad we have right now, I’ve no idea how Pep fixes it. We need some muscle, pace and energy in midfield for a start. Even if we’re not prepared to buy in January (and we really should) we need to look at bring a loan or two in. Something needs to change, and it’s increasingly clear it’s not going to be self-generated by the players we currently have.
