Ok, wild theory here but stick with me a second. Maybe, a manager who has always looked at the long game is err, looking at the long game and giving players as many minutes as possible to keep the squad as fresh as possible before a stacked new year where we go full throttle in 4 comps.
Pep has picked a team with this in mind that he believes is more than good enough to beat Everton.

Nice little video City put out of him turning up for training and all the players patting him on the back. He seemed pretty humble about it all, but everyone seemed delighted for him.

I think we’ll need to be patient with Everton starting 5 defenders and 2DMs. They’ll hope to get the occasional 3 on 3 or 1 on 1. I would be happier to see Foden start as he’s great and getting in behind packed defences. I think if we don’t score early the crowd may get a little tetchy especially as with Mahrez and Grealish we’ll try to keep the ball and control the tempo.

Hopefully Erling gets us going early and they are forced to come out and play.

How can Mahrez and Grealish keep playing ahead of Foden and Alavarez?
Do we need to drop points for Pep to see how bad is our attack?

I reckon most of us could play the Mahrez role. Stay out wide ,occasionally receive the ball then knock it backwards. Rinse and repeat.
