Everton Thread | 2024/25

I hope Everton stay up because I have a really good mate who supports them and most Evertonians I've met have been sound. Plus their fans as a whole have come a long way since there were burning crosses in the Gwladys Street End and some of the most appalling racist chants and comments that we witnessed first hand back in the 80s. Sure we have a Mancunian-Scouse thing with them and I like that as long as it's not violent, racist or toxic like it is with many of their neighbours.
Have to be honest, they went down in my estimation with their whinging about the postponed game during lock down. Also, the vitriol aimed at Joleon when he went back there with us. That old saying about "my enemy's enemy is my friend"; it's not always true!

Their new stadium looks nice, mind. It'll be a toss up between them and Spurs as to who'll have the nicest stadium in the championship!

Yeah I wasn't impressed with either of those episodes or Moyes's attitude when he was last in charge. It felt like he was currying favour at the Swamp with his digs.

My positive thoughts are more about the Evertonians I've known and the ones on here.

My longstanding Evertonian mate and me don't particularly like or strongly dislike each others club, but we get on well, largely because he's easy going enough to have put up with me for 40 years and my ranting about what dirty bastards Ian Snodin and Pat Van den Hauwe were, to name but two. I didn't like Peter Reid either until he played for City.

Now Totnumb in the 2nd Division has a nice ring to it. Would love to see them having to scrap it out for 46 games in a more physical league.

I went to Goodison yesterday, to watch Everton take on Bournemouth. 1st half was dire, 2nd half they did enough for a couple of goals.

Anyway, I wanted to visit before another old ground disappears, as I've never been. Very old school. Very. Wooden flooring in the Upper Bullens, smoking on the concourse (felt like a dodgy pairing, that), old terraced area with packed old pubs.

I enjoyed it. Everton fans moan like feck.

I was in the away section because I'd promised the lad a trip there before it shuts. As I don't have the points nowadays (it used to be so easy when I was single and we were shit or even Keegan's team), and tickets in the home end aren't easy to get hold of (despite having a long-standing Evertonian mate) had to get creative. Or rather he did! An adult and two kids tickets for £47 including booking fees was very reasonable at today's prices.

It will be a shame when it shuts. The lad said they will lose such a lot of heritage and character when they move. Quite profound for a 14 year old. Great throwback ground...love the roar when Z Cars gets played...a reminder of many trips with City, hearing that, the hairs on my neck standing up and bellowing "Come on City".

They can be one of the more raucous atmospheric crowds even though they don't have many songs. Not yesterday though.

Bournemouth silenced the crowd though with their quality possession and goals. They are a good team and we have to be on it when we meet them.

Still enjoyed what is my last trip there (unless anyone has a spare when we go!). The authenticity of it with mainly genuine fans and less glory hunters and "neutral" visitors was refreshing.
