Everton Thread | 2024/25

Deffo a fear when Dyche was in charge. It looked bad for a while. Being relegated in our final season at Goodison would have been a nightmare. New stadium will be nice, but leaving some great memories at Goodison, not just football, some wonderful people who are now gone. And of course, my lovely pops took me my first game there. But things change, as a club we must go with it or fade away.
I'd imagine the old guard will miss Goodison and all the great memories. However, the new stadium looks seriously impressive.

You know it. How long did it take for our fans to feel at home at the Etihad?

I was drinking near the new stadium location last summer , Def an upgrade in the standard of bars
Can't remember the name of the place but it was a multi entertainment hub with a massive bar, an in house comedy club, lots of separate food outlets Inc a Chinese food stall...everything under one roof basically
Footy fans are gonna love the place, looks new ,and a little out of place with it's surroundings 's ill try and find out it's name.....it had two very experienced and respected local bouncers on the entrance so prob home fans only .,,my mate knew them both from his days working the doors.

He was badly tarnished by his time at the rags. And Hammers fans didn't like him. But he managed them to their first silverware since 1980 (?), ugly football or not. And, as you acknowledged, he got you out of a shitty situation under the ginger Mourinho.
Ginger.lol.

May have been Blackstock Market?

Looks familiar ...all I know is ...it was close to the new ground site.
And,as a birdwatcher...I noticed Herring Gulls were raising their young.,on the roof tops of
Neighbouring business units. It was actually a bit smart for me,but I can see away fans heading for this neck of the woods and loving it.

A fantastic gesture giving Goodison to the ladies team. Ensuring there's a local team for the kids to watch in that sport.
I am over the moon with this.

I am sure they will change the stadium someway. But part of it will remain. The fans can still go to the ground they knew and loved, and that will help the womans tean who hopefully will grow from all of this. A few local businesses may survive as well now.

Great gesture by the club. I am delighted the Old Lady will survive.

I can't fault it. An amazing gesture which may well improve the team as well.

I think it will be great for Everton. Much closer to town and the waterfront area. Loads of good pubs and bars. It will change the city like we have done with the NQ and Ancoats.

Who else thinks that the retention of Goodson for ladies footy is a smart move coz the whole enterprise - stadium and footy team- can be sold Chavs style to enable a giant cash injection into the club?

I wish we'd kept Maine Road in some capacity :-(
That dump?

;-)

My first 10 years was spent about 5 - 10 minutes' walk from there, on Claremont Rd, near the junction with Broadfield Rd. Every home game, there'd be hordes walking down past our front gate to Princess Road to get the bus. Similar to Ashton New Road nowadays. Those were the days.

The big problem with Goodison is that it’s not a huge site and it’s surrounded on 3.5 sides with 1900’s terraces. Nowt wrong with the terraces but u can’t build an estate in there to attract great prices and profit. They could build ‘social housing’ or a starter home estate on it, but the return would not be as much as it may be in a different area of the city. Maybe this could change but in the meantime it’ll cost less to house the women in there than it will to knock it down.
This move is positive for the women’s team but as the maintenance costs start outweighing gate receipts we’ll see then…

Really really envious (in fact so bloody jealous I could cry!) that Everton fans get to still go to Goodison and keep that link, some fans would've really struggled with losing it like I did with Maine Road, and for them to still get to do the same stuff is fab for them, but in so jealous! :(

I must admit, I was slightly surprised, when I heard it, as I was expecting Goodison to follow Maine Road into the great stadium heaven in the sky.

But, as has already been said, it’s a great gesture by the club that will surely help the women's team grow and improve.
