Fuck me, that was sudden. I was only watching him on Question Time the other day.

Losing his seat after 32yrs of service must of been heartbreaking for him, came across as a decent bloke , maybe his drink problems caught up with him.

Sad news. He was one of the good guys and will be missed. His appearance of Question Time was very disturbing as he was clearly drunk. His demons obviously got the better of him.

Despite the fact he was of that usually despised species, a 'career politician', having become an MP straight out of university, he seemed eminently sensible and a very good party leader. After over 30 years in Parliament it must have been awfully hard to find himself out of it.
