Dave Ewing had an ironmongers shop on the Reddish end of Broadstone Road. Passed it every afternoon, walking home from St. Joseph's school. Used to stick my head in, 2 or 3 times a week and shout out "Hi Dave" - fair play, he never got pissed off! Some years later, he bought a house almost next to my mum's, in Heaton Moor. Saw him quite often then, before I moved to the U.S. One day I asked him about his shop, and did he remember a snotty little City kid who stuck his head in. "YOU were that annoying little fucker??" and he laughed hs head off ...... nice guy - good memories.
