Exclusive Bluemoon interview with Paul Lake

Lakey, as a physio myself I can sympathise with you about your knees. I really hope everything works out for you next year because you deserve the very best. In terms of stature when people talk about true blues and City legends you'll be one of the first to be mentioned.

Ric, thanks for organising the interview for us on Bluemoon. Great read.

Top, top player and top, top man

My dad thinks you are the 2nd best player to have played for City (behind Colin the King). I remember when you went down against Villa (it looked nothing) and not believing it when I read how badly injured you were. Also remember you swallowing your tongue and seeing you convulse on the pitch. Dr Luft was my GP at Brunswick Health Centre and I remember asking my mum to make an appointment to see him just so I could say thanks for saving you.

Good luck Lakey - as others have said a true City Legend

He was mine too (actually before the health centre was built) and a friend of mine works on reception there.

I only met Paul once. It was a few years ago when the Glossop Supporters branch was still going. He came to talk to us and stayed behind for hours. Then again he did spend a lot of it talking to Ricky Hatton who was our president.

What year/ date was that game when Paul got injured? just need to settle an argument cheers

It was very early on at the start of the 1990-91 season. It was a midweek home game against Villa. Wed Sep 5th 1990.

Of all the interviews given by players on this site, that was the best by far. Seems a really intellgent bloke and how he can maintain a sense of humour over his problems I don't know, but that endears him to me even more. Wish I could remember a bit more of his playing days but I was just that bit too young, I remember my Dad always telling me we had a blinding player called Paul Lake but he was always injured. Proper shame and why did it have to happen to one the good guys eh.
