Extinction Rebellion

The reality of the ER movement is somewhat different to that depicted by many on here.

The leader is a fella from Bredbury, he is currently on remand having refused to ask for Bail over his efforts in the Heathrow drone threats. He is purported to be going to use the "necessity" defence at his trial and is quite happy to go to prison for the cause. He is a well educated fella, having a degree, and is certainly not the sort of scumbag stereotype that many on here like to use. His fellow leader is a molecular biophysicist, hardly a scum bag occupation.

They operate using three guiding principles based on mass non-violent civil disobedience.

Firstly, it is only through the breaking of laws that the attention required is received.

Secondly, only through sacrifice, in this case the willingness to be arrested and go to prison is sufficient attention garnered for the cause

Thirdly, Only through being respectful towards ourselves, the police and the public can they change the hearts and minds of those who oppose them.

That is hardly the manifesto of an extremist faction hell bent on world domination, nor is it a manifesto cobbled together by a bunch of stereotypical scruffs. These people have brains and passion and make some of the opponents of their cause on here look like Neanderthal halfwits.

After the recent events 34,000 people signed up to their campaign, 20,000 signed up for the willingness to be arrested part of their guiding principles. That is honourable democratic protest not the actions of rag tag bunch of violent hooligans.
I’m sure you’d be over the moon if they brought a flight down with their illegal and dangerous use of a drone at an airport.

My neighbours are part of ER.

They are 2 of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Both are retired schoolteachers. I have spoken to them about ER and fully support their efforts to raise awareness of how the human race is destroying the planet we live on. They have young grandchildren and are deeply concerned for their futures and that of the planet.

Good on them I say.

I don't normally post in the politics bit but 2 arseholes from this bunch of terrorists have just been on Sky. They are planning to blockade Westminster next week and not allow anyone through. It was put to them that Westminster Hospital deals with a lot of accident and emergency cases and would not be able to function if a blockade was in place. the 2 sour cows answer was basically 'tough, one person dying is nothing compared to the world that is dying.'
I am not a violent man but if a loved one of mine died because of their actions I would punch them until I ran out of strength. You stupid stuck up middle class cows deserve to be run over by a steam roller.

Very moderate if I may say so.

A carbon free steam roller I would hope

Now Misty I have seen the clip and they say they will let ambulances through.

Though the man missing his dads death in bristol and the old woman in the oranges reaction is pathetic

No, I would not, that is silly talk. Their intention was to fly drones up to 10 metres high. That is hardly going to bring down an aeroplane as they don't get that low until they are over the runway threshold.
