They are not advocating a return to the dark ages, they advocating for a future green age.
 
Most will also be on the side of remain I will wager and will spend hours telling everyone about the damage brexit might do to the economy.

For the next 2 weeks though fuck the economy eh as London and its economy is severely damaged.

They can obviously, perhaps they have taken holidays, are retired, are unemployed, take time off without pay.

I took time off without pay to go on a CND march with my bosses blessing too. And when I got my wages I found he had paid me. :)

We are already going through a green age, we are decreasing dependency on fossil fuels, electric car usage is up, recycling is up etc etc.

Basically every single 'green' thing to do is on the up and awareness and acceptance has never been greater.

So what do they want? What do they want people to do? My guess is their idea of a green age and my idea of a green age are very different!

The moronic and anarchic nature of it is summed up by the image a few months ago of them climbing on DLR trains - electric, carbon neutral trains.....
 
I cant see any good coming from these protests.

Holding up traffic is pointless and arrogant in the extreme imo. Who the f*ck are these people to tell the rest of us that we can only get to our destinations at their pleasure. No better than the scum who take over the streets at night.

The world is in the hands of the current forward thinking industrious and the young who will become the next wave of the forward thinking industrious. I mean those work hard and lead the way in science and technology and health and care and services. And also those in business and its governance.

The future in the hands of this rabble is just mob rule.

Rascal is right, you haven't listened. Complacently thinking 2050 is OK is a big mistake. It will be too late by then. We have only a 50/50 chance of saving the planet by then. This is the whole point of these demonstrations. Every other method of convincing governments has failed. Nothing is being done. It needs a radical approach. This governments approach is to lock people up - surprise surprise.

If we want to make a difference for our kids give them better and longer education and help them give back through public service....imo.

100% agreed.

Their objective of being zero carbon by 2020 is the policy of a 12 year old.

It's completely and utterly unrealistic, unachievable and frankly also unecessary and incredibly damaging were we to even try. Which thank God we won't.

Some of these people may be well-intentioned idiots, but they are idiots all the same. At best.

They have probably never heard of the carbon cycle, have no clue about the percentage of anthropogenic CO2 Vs natural CO2, nor any concept of the natural feedback mechanisms which will over time stabilize the earth's temperature, just as they always have for the past 500 million years.

We simply need to moderate CO2 output to keep temperature rises and sea level rises within sensible bounds until the natural CO2 sinks take up the strain. We are doing this already.

Now people can debate whether we are doing enough, too much or not quite enough. But all this talk of extinctions is either idiotic or politically motivated.
 
I'd love to see every person having to do 4 years of service.

First a year in school dedicated to better understanding and loving science, participating in social give back activities, learning life skills, etc. So one more year in "Primary".

Next an extra year in "Secondary" again geared towards thinking and acting in a positive social way.

Then in their 20s a year of adult level dedication, example helping refugees, research, etc.

Then one final year in their 30s or 40s or 50s ...to bring back their experience to the new generation.

If this is a battle then create an army of do gooders ... not an army of protestors.

Utter nonsense from "Rascal" to "surprise". Mistaken on every level.

For the sorts of run away greenhouse effects to be anything like as bad as you fear, we'd have to burn every gram of coal, every drop of oil, every stick of wood and bale of straw. In short every single gram of combustible carbon, we'd need to burn. And it still would not be enough to cause the effects you fear.

If you genuinely believe what you typed above, I'm sorry but you've been conned.

They want an end to government and a citizens charter running the show.

Of course it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise who and how the charter will be made up.
