I've recently been suffering from an extremely slow internet connection, and I don't know why. Youtube vidoes take an age to load, files take an age to download, and pages take much longer than they normally do.

I did a speed test and got a download speed of no more than 120kb, when I normally get around 1.5meg or more.

Any suggestions, other than get another server, as I am on AOL atm, and I really should change!!

Cheers.

AOL generally rape your connection. Leave them as soon as is possible. I recommend <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bethere.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bethere.co.uk</a>

I would say it's more a case of your pc rather than your provider.

Check you haven't got toolbars coming out of your ears, most people do for example;

google, msn, yahoo, avg, mcaffee, symantec. These are just the legit ones, then there is the spyware crap which will install itself. Toolbars dont just appear btw. People install them. When somebody downloads adobe reader they get the google toolbar with it unless you untick the option. Toolbars are bad and interfere with the browser in a shit way.

That's just one probable reason, the rest is spyware or virus related bullshit which will impact your pc performance. Lots of recommendations on here for programs to run or if you want I can do a list.

Run System Mechanic. Run STOPZilla (thanks Ric). I use System Mechanic and McAfee Security Center myself and just bought two licences for STOPZilla...when it found some nasty things hiding on both my PC and laptop that weren't picked up by by McAfee.

You might have a bad modem mate. That was the problem I had a few months ago. On my shitty wireless connection (laptop) I get 3.5meg, that 120kbs is old school dial up speed...OUCH!

Here's 2 programs I highly recommend you download:

CCleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com/
System Mechanic - http://www.iolo.com/downloads.aspx

CCleaner is free but you only get a 30 day trial for System Mechanic. Running both these programs really cleaned up my computer and I use them once a week.
Cheers for the system mechanic link mate, it's made my laptop run fucking rapidly. Shows how much crap was probably on there before.

I am currently evaluating the system mechanic software and its the
dog's whatsits. Has anyone got a license number for this or point
me in the right direction to obtain one ;-) TY
