How I love the FA Cup matches and was so sad this weekend.
We travelled to Grimsby by train in thick snow not knowing if the game was on or not.
We had no phones or even radios to hear latest news.
We got to the ground early about noon and we were told that if we would help clear the pitch of snow the referee would then decide if the pitch was playable
We got stuck in with shovels and brushes everyone joined in and the pitch was cleared and the game was played.
We got a 2=2 draw and came back mid week for the replay only to loose the match 2-1
Anyone go that match?

The replay, yes. 2-1 to Grimsby if it's the right match. City took the lead but Grimsby equalised before the break. The second half was one way traffic as City attacked unremittingly. The only time Grimsby got into our half they won a free kick just outside and to the left of our box. They blasted the ball into our wall, it took a wicked deflection which left Bert Trautmann hopelessly wrong footed and rolled into the net. Daylight robbery! But my memory remembers this as a Saturday afternoon game for some reason?! The only consolation as I remember was that United went out in round 3 as well - 3-0 at Norwich?

You are right it was on a Saturday THE 24TH. Bobby Johnstone scored in 2-1 loss
I never missed a Cup match for 30 years even when I was refereeing which is why I was so disappointed on Sunday.
If we get through next few weeks it might well be right decision but we only have 5 more games at home 7 away and United have 7 at home.
We got some tough league to come.

Trying to find the replayed cup game v Newcastle when I wagged off school as it was a Wednesday afternoon and Len White scored 4 or 5 goals in 5-4 loss?

there it is.We drew 1-1 at St James only to loose 5-4 at Maine Rd Wednesday afternoon Jan 9th 1957 There were 46988 there all wagging from school

Another memorable FA Cup match during miners strike at Nottingham Forest with a morning? kick off as floodlights were banned from use!
Ian Boyer scored for them. I hope Pelli gets it right as I have more feelings for Domestic cups than European

A classic typical City game. City were 3-0 ahead but Newcastle fought back and equalised a few minutes before the end despite despite an injury having reduced them to 10 men (no subs then). City went 4-3 up in extra time but still managed to lose 5-4. City were the FA Cup holders at the time.

Did anyone go to the third round tie at Maine Road (1960?) with Southampton, then in the third division south. Maine Road was packed, City took the lead and then their two wingers (one of whom was Terry Payne) and a centre forward Calle d Reeves ripped us apart. We ended up losing 5-1 at home to a team two divisions lower!
