You don't remember the levels of unrest and commotion within the team that year? They don't want 2 guys potentially jeopardising each other over a guaranteed double championship. Bottas has done fine on that front so far.

just for 2021 I think. I can Lewis doing another year, getting 8 and then retiring before the new rules cause too much competition with Max.

Russell isn't Nico Rosberg. Plus Rosberg retired so it wasn't a case of them getting rid, it was forced on them. I really don't think it was as bad as portrayed in the media.

I think he would relish a closer fight his legacy is assured so going to toe to toe for another year won’t fuss him IMO. Max is fast but still has the odd brain fart in him, Depends as well on what Merc do with the new regs
