They are on the wrong tire and are hoping for a safety car free pit stop to give them a victory.

Absolutely Jim. I think Merc are happy to be on the medium as a starting tyre as it’s quite clearly the best tyre to be on.

The Red Bull is not 3/10’s faster than the Merc here, no way.

The Merc is supposed to be the faster car in a straight line. So, even with the tow, it's a staggering lap that Verstappen pulled out of the hat. A third of a second is huge in F1.

Max would have been 0.4 up in KSA last week had he not gone into the wall. He was still well off the race pace.
