F1 Thread - 2018 Season

Good race. I've not seen any post-race stuff after the podium so don't know what the fall-out is yet for Haas and Merc, but...

Vettel got very lucky but he took his chance by going longer in the first stint so fair dos. Hamilton must still be wondering how a perfect weekend ended with a 2nd place. He looked bewildered and gutted on the podium. But he has the best car again and maybe it's actually further ahead than last year when Vettel won it on pure race pace, not on luck. Bottas had a mare and won't be there next year.

Devastating for Haas having done so well all weekend and through testing, so hopefully they'll be up there through the season, but they've done well at Melbourne before and tailed off so we'll see. At least they did their Engine suppliers a favour! The whole thing made me wonder where Flavio Briatorre was this weekend..??

Red Bull probably went the wrong way on the tyres but driver mistakes cost them any chances they might've had. (Max in qualifying and in the race, Dani Ric in qualifying but maybe the engine just isn't up to it still?) Good race pace on the right tyres though so hopefully they can challenge Ferrari.

McLaren were solid which bodes very well considering the pre-season they had, so hopefully better to come. Alonso probably DotD, although despite the result I'd say it was Lewis.

Renault also quite strong so the battle between them, MacLaren and Haas should be interesting, not to mention the pressure they can put on the top 3 teams.

Force India have dropped like a stone and Honda are still a bit shit.

All in all it bodes well for another good season.

As for the cost of watching/being Free... If you already have Skysports then it's free but I don't so a mate and I have shared a NowTV season sub at £150 (£8.33 each per month) which also gives access to all other Sky sports channels. But despite Channel 4 not having all races live, they do show very extensive highlights which is also on demand. But, because I ballsed up using NowTV today, I ended up watching SkyF1 on a pretty decent stream. So no harm done and there are options for all levels of access/quality. Where there's a will...
Very good summary, think Haas have taken force s place as the number 4 team

Last week in the moto gp less than a second covered first to third, now that's racing. However I do like F1.

Don't like Hamilton myself, think he's a complete narcissist but each to their own.
I can tell with your post mate, Anway Hamilton buries Vettel.

Up there with his hero Senna for me from the modern greats, He'll be the best ever too when he calls it a day.

That will piss the haters off :)

Well it's 4 WDC's each so we'll see who has more at the end of their respective careers ;)

Today was proper racing. Proper car racing. MotoGP's a completely different sport, and tbf that doesn't happen every week does it?

FTR only 7 seconds covered the top 4 today and of the cars that finished all but 1 was on the lead lap, the difference in best lap times between first and last was only 1.7 seconds. For car racing that's not bad at all.

Yes passing in F1 especially with the aerodynamics as they are is difficult and maybe they can change the regulations to help that, but Melbourne is notoriously like that as a circuit, but you can't say there wasn't any drama or excitement over the whole weekend or potentially, hopefully over the season, again...?

F1 isn't a sport that you can dip in and out of on a race-by-race basis. It's more about the long game and consistency as much as technical and driving excellence in any particular race on any given circuit. If you want close racing there are plenty of one-make formulas but there's a reason they don't get the coverage, money or following that F1 does globally...

Not having a go at you particularly because I also like and watch both F1 and MotoGP avidly but I just don't see the constant need for the comparison of bike racing vs car racing... They're different.

I'm just glad that there's both to watch and enjoy and usually on different weekends. Not to mention the footie...

PS Go Dovi!

I went to the first F1 at Inddy, done Spa, Silverstone and Barca, I like F1 done Le Manns more times than I can remember ( yes its not F1 but its a great 5 days )
I like moto gp I wasn't having a dig just making a point.
However when Leighton puts up the six nations thread you have to wade through all the crap from folks who hate the game.
Like Clint said " opinion are like arsehole everyones got one "

Agree with all that. Although would like Rossi to win one last championship, but that's just dreaming. I'm going to the Assen MotoGP on my bike in July.
