FA confirm Southgate will stay on until after Euro 2024 (p 101)

What’s more mind blowing is there are posters saying they played well!! Very very low expectations is the only reason I can think of to come to that conclusion.
We maybe didn’t play well but we still played better than France did

Fine margins, Maguire bags his absolute sitter of a header and Kane slots his second pen and Southgate is a hero today
No, I wouldn't say that. Most fans haven't rated Southgate even after semi and a final, and even if we had won it I suspect many would say that was in spite of his management rather than a a result of it.

Eh? You could say the same about any City fan in the late 90's. There's a huge difference between supporting your team, as most of us do, and thinking they're the best in the world, which I've never heard ANY England fan say.

Sure, you get the songs, the chants, so does every other team/country in the world, that's just part of the match day banter. Or can't you tell the difference? Or are you saying we shouldn't support our country because they won't win anything?
None of that has anything remotely to do with what I posted. You can support a team and still want them to be better. Blind support is for sad sacks.

The point is we didn't play well because of the way Southgate has us set up. We have the players, we just don't have the manager.

Look at the first half for example, all we got when we had the ball in our half was Maguire taking the ball around form side to side. No movement, no urgency, in fact at times he was playing like we were trying to hang on to a 1-0 win, not losing 0-1. By contrast look at the French. Every time they had the ball in their half, within seconds they were in our half, attacking.

We had a rapid player on the left wing same as they did, the difference is we didn't use him. See the pattern? HOW we play is down to the managers tactics.

No real chances from open play, no out ball or support for our front 3 resulting in backward play. No overlapping defenders, shite substitutions and poor defending for second goal.
We never once looked like scoring from open play despite our possession. Did we fuck outplay them. But let's blame the ref. We had two pens and two free kicks in prime position.
We played to their strengths (blocking Mbappe) instead of utilising our own. That will never win top matches...
We beat no one of calibre in this world cup despite having an amazing squad...
Don't let the media narrative and blah blah fool you. Southgate and his tactics let us down badly.

Um... Yes, you can support them and want better. That's what I said. You said people would be supporting them and saying they're the best in the world, i.e. blindly supporting them as if they were... You're criticising your own comment!

You missed Lloris excellent saves then

Most of us supported them with the likes of Ball, Pearce etc in charge even though we knew the manager was shit.
Yes, I was one of them. The difference is we couldn’t attract top managers back then whereas England, if they really wanted to, could.

I actually think he should be stripped of his CBE or whatever he got. I'd like to see hinm paraded through the streets tbh. Semi final and finals are a disgusting return on this crop of players.... I mean Rice, Maguire, TAA, Pickford, Shaw, Kane, Wilson.... These could have played for France or Brazil and won things, but no we had the WASTEcoat.

We havent had a golden generation since the last two times we had them, but this time we have actually gone backwards since losing to Iceland in 2016. Get rid of Southgate, I dont care who, put Ole in charge, he would do better.
Worth noting that Brazil are out too, and it wasn't too long ago that they got battered 7-1 I think it was, in a world Cup semi.

Point is I don't agree that we've gone backwards, the annoying thing is we could have won all three of these last three tourneys with the right manager. Problem is the media bang on about how well he prepared for matches yet all I see are the same faces playing in exactly the same way, and players that do come in have to adjust to the negative way they play.

What cliche stick? Every single criticism Southgate has received has been warranted. Only idiots, and you’re not alone on this judging by a couple of posts I’ve read today think that he’s the man for the job.
I like bluehammer but there is no reasoning with him with regards to England. Every tournament we get knocked out by the first half decent side we meet. We tell him this will happen, he disputes it, says we should get behind them, we have the right manager etc..

And then it happens again, and again and again.

If I told him the sun is coming up tomorrow even after a year of it happening everyday he would suggest we give the moon one more chance to hang around all day.

He is no different to some on here with City and the champions league though so no need to judge him badly. He is just Uber positive despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

A lot of us are just England weary based on solid logic.

2010 Spain world champion with lots of players trained by Pep Guardiola. 2014 Germany world champion with lots of players trained by Pep Guardiola. Both teams took full advantage. 2022 England not world champion with little to no idea about how to take advantage of lots of players trained by Pep Guardiola. Coincidence? I think not. Southgate represents the good (bad) old way of doing things, and off course it works exactly as well as the last 56 years.

I was being ironic. However that’s still a very sexist mindset, although if we could use it to fuck Gareth Taylor off from our women’s team then I’ll take it

No not at all. Phil Neville had no experience of the women's game and so was limited to being only a "motivational coach" not a manager with a decent grasp of tactics and understanding of the game.

There are certain aspects of the men's game that don't feature in the women's game. She may well be capable of making the transition but with no experience of managing in the men's game, there is nothing to evidence that she would.
