Argentina might win the World Cup playing only 1 top 10 ranking sides and losing to the worst team in the competition - wonder how many of their fans are sitting and moaning on forums right now about this

The rankings thing doesn’t really mean much, but Argentina are getting the job done against teams who are near enough equal to them. That’s why they don’t need to moan.

We have a manager and team who lost a lead in the World Cup semi-final and the Euro final, even though anybody with a bit of footy knowledge could see that the tide was turning in the game and he should know how to deal with it tactically, but he just sat on his hands and watched it unfold until it was too late.

And that is the difference. Gareth’s track record against teams who are more or less around our supposed level is piss poor. That won’t change either. he was a dog shit club manager that has somehow landed a job managing England. All he has proven is he can get deep into a tournament if we get an easy enough run and then it ends.

Being a successful manager is not a fluke, that’s why pep gets paid so much money and is so successful . That’s why Mourinho won things in many countries etc etc.

If you’re a country that really wants to win things, you don’t keep employing a mediocre manager has had three cracks at a tournament and lost to the first real stiff tests. These countries that win tournaments wouldn’t do it, why are we?

That’s all it comes down to. I don’t care about rankings.

I'm not really that bothered, but I'm not sure there are many great options out there either.

This is what I thought. Not many alternatives, and the FA don't like change, particularly mid-contract. Get to the end and if he doesn't improve in the next Euros he can disappear up his own fundament.

Southgate one step up from Stuart Pearce for me. A dreadful manager, absolutely hopeless imo. On paper he may be better than Sir Alf, or Sir Bobby Robson. No issue with Pickford, Shaw or even Maguire but he only picks a select group of players and in all honesty might as well take a squad of 15 instead of 26 because he never utilises them, case in point was USA game after Iran, he openly said he knew the games would be totally different yet he picked the same players and formation. He’s got his favourites and sticks by them all the time when he should be picking horses for courses. It’s his second biggest fault after being overly negative.

The teams that performed above expectations fully utilised their squad. Southgate rotated about 13 to 15 players . I bet Middlesborough wouldn’t take him back if he paid his own wages.
