FA Cup 2022 / 23 - 4th Qualifying Round results (local sides)

Yep, the same Merthyr Town who beat Atalanta 2-1 in the first leg of the old European Cup Winners Cup in 1987.
The Martyrs ?
Well remember that amazing victory over Atalanta. Think that a very famous Spanish International played for Atalanta - Schuster ?

Yes. The Martyrs - were called AFC Merthyr Tydfil at the time but went bust several years later. The 'biggest' Atalanta player was Glenn Stromberg - the Swedish Captain, maybe that's who you're thinking? Only lost 2-0 in the second leg.

Edit (to bore you!) - To get into Europe Merthyr beat Newport in the old Welsh FA Cup after a replay. First game, notable goalscorer for Merthyr - Bob Latchford.

Must have been a Swedish International then ? I'm from Pontypridd (12 miles from Merthyr), so have always had a soft spot for them.
Ironically, Pontypridd which was always a huge rugby town, now has Pontypridd Town in the Welsh Premier League. When I lived in Ponty, it was rugby or nothing...

Wasn't the guitarist in Motorhead from Ponty (not the original one)?
