FA Cup 2024/25 thread (1st Round proper this weekend P10)

Why were the replays scrapped? Any idea? I assume it's something about too many fixtures in a season, but as you correctly point out the clubs that need the gate money the most are fucked over.
And if it is because of there being too many games then why are there so many pointless Internationals and friendlies?

But then the FA have never given much thought to any club outside of their favourites.

If Wrexham get through to the 3rd round it's my bet that they'll draw united or liverpool.

Money is money, should really have kept replays until the third round.
Is anyone on this board involved in supporting or helping to run a Non-league or lower League team ?
I'm not so sure that FA Cup replays are always such a money spinner, especially in the early rounds ?
Yes, WSM v Bristol Rovers is a local derby, so this would probably sell-out for a replay.
But lower Non-league teams sometimes struggle to get all their players available, mid week.
Also, are League club supporters bothered about a mid week away replay with a long distance to travel ?

They beat Northampton, in a bit of a local derby.

Cobblers!

This season seems to be throwing up some giant killings.

Who knows, the rags might even beat the League Two side they’re drawn against.

Now, that would be a giant killing.
Really big Derby in our part of the world , Brilliant win for the poppies, real money spinner for them as well . Only 14 miles apart . Hopefully get a decent draw that gives them a chance to get to the 3rd round and an away tie at City !

I know you’re not far apart.

I have an auntie and uncle in Rushden.

Yeah, if all the teams involved want replays prelims, 1st and 2nd rounds, can’t see why they can’t still have them. Not beyond that though.
The FA Cup is a knock-out competition. get it done on the day. Lower placed teams have a better chance of progressing if it's a draw after 90 mins rather than having extra time or replay. Like you, don't see the point in having replays.

Burton Albion v Tamworth. A Derby. 16 miles apart.

Went to a 4th qualifying round game at Burton v Tamworth (Eton Park). Big turn out by the Tammies. Game finished in a draw. After the game, we were funneled out 1 by 1. Everyone had their picture taken and videoed by Staffordshire's finest.

Tamworth had a reputation in them days. Not for violence but for the amount that would travel to away games.

I blame it on those two pigs that went on the run……

Guiseley lost on pens away at Stevenage. Just the 4 leagues above....

Stevenage mustered about 2500 fans. If we had a replay at Nethermoor, there would be a similar number at Guiseley. Which would be 2500 x £10 (average) or about £10k for each club. 20k over the two games is a lot of money at non league level.

If you are playing a team 4 leagues above, it will be a huge payday, due to the glamour of playing a League team.
But, would Stevenage be that bothered about another midweek game (travel costs etc) for the £10k the replay would raise ?
Would Guiseley have gained much money if there replays before the Stevenage game ?
