Didn’t slabhead play him onside ?
If it's deemed he had control to deliberately play the ball yes.

I personally don't like that part of the offside law though.

It was Mbappe against Spain in the Nations League that started it all and if you see that one that counted, Eric Garcia had less control than Maguire did there.

Yeah one of those that could be interpreted either way. Personally I err on he was offside as I’d interpret Maguire as a movement that achieved limited contact/control.
I'm surprised Shearer isn't more vocal as he was involved in a goal where the ball was attempted to be played, Shearer scored from an offside position but the defender was deemed to have made an attempt to get to the ball.

It's very subjective and as part of the offside law I think it's shite. Eric Garcia v France in the Nations League had less control than Maguire did there.
Yes and the decision to give that goal was a farce.

To be fair, in England, it needs to be a deliberate pass for it to be deemed not offside. Any deflection, whether a knick on the ball or a spoon, won’t stop the attacker being offside.

UEFA are always slightly different.

Arsenal need to start picking up time wasting bookings for their set pieces. Amazed other clubs have not called them out on them

Life was so much simpler in the days when if you were in an offside position when the ball was played you were offside. Why do they have to eff about with the Laws ?
Indeed, to think this rule was created to prevent goal hanging and then they fuck around with it again and again.
