FA Cup 5th Round Draw 2019 - Newport (a)

Newport fan in peace!

We’re all looking forward to this one. We’ve had a great run of results in the FA cup over the last couple of years having beaten Leeds, Middlesborough and Leicester at Rodney Parade whilst taking Spurs to a replay at Wembley. I believe we have lost only one of our last 7 games to teams in the top two divisions at Rodney Parade, a 2-1 loss to Blackburn back in 2016.

Remains to be said about the pitch, it looked pretty cut up at the end of Middlesborough but obviously does not help that we have two rugby teams playing on it. A quick look of fixtures suggests neither Newport RFC or Gwent Dragons will be playing at Rodney Parade before our eagly anticipated game.

In terms of away tickets it will depend on whether the temporary stand is erected, it was against Spurs and predict it probably will be against City. Spurs were given an away allocation of 1,660. Without the inclusion of the temporary stand the away allocation will be around 1,100.

I’m certainly looking forward to this one, although I predict that you guys will be too strong anything is possible and depending on the weather and state of the pitch beforehand may play into our hands. Many of the teams we have played over the last couple of years have made the same mistake and chosen to play their “fringe” players against us and have been turned over. If this is the case I fancy ourselves to win, but if Pep choses a regular starting 11 I believe you will be too strong.

My lad did the same thing.

He is now going to go down via Crewe and Bristol to avoid the bus, and attempt to do the same coming back - it will be difficult if there is extra time and penalties.

Two possible return trains, the early one being via Bristol and Crewe whilst the later one necessitates using the bus which he doesn't want to do.

I have an open ended ticket.

I didn't know about the Blackburn game but I remember the Spurs game. I remember watching it on TV and you pushed a strong Spurs side all the way. I'd like to think City know the risks because 12 months ago we went to Wigan in the 5th Round and got beat.

I have no idea what our starting 11 will be but I like to think City's squad is a bit different from other sides. We don't really have a first XI, we have a squad of 20 plus and rotate so who plays probably depends on who we play either side of the Cup tie. It's not a case of taking Newport lightly but knowing that you cannot possibly play the same XI players twice a week for months on end. Consider that in 2019 we have played 10 games already whilst rivals like Liverpool have played 6, and we played throughout the busy Christmas programme etc so it's been non-stop and hopefully will continue this way as we want to go as far as we can in all comps.

I remember some sides like Bolton in the past who became notorious Cup sides who'd be middling in the League but in the Cups they'd come alive and scare other sides to death. Perhaps that is what Newport have become. I hope you use the experience and income to improve your football club.

He will play our fringe players for sure, as we are fighting on four fronts and have loads of fixture congestion. But we have some damn good "fringe" players who play regularly in the Premier League and Champions League. Depending on fitness and form you could well see the likes of Mahrez, Kompany, Sane, Jesus, Gundaghan, Danilo, Foden etc.

Newport have just issued ticket news to home supporters. As suggested there will be a temporary stand for City fans, so expect roughly 1,600 allocation.

Tickets for home fans range from £26.00-30.00 for an Adult, £21.00-£25.00 for a senior (60+) and roughly £15.00 for u15 so expect similar prices.

There will be roughly 500 seats available in the Bisley Stand and 1,100 in the temporary stand.

You're more than welcome on here my friend. Unlike them Gooners and dippers dickheads. I've always had a bit of a softspot for Newport ever since I was a young lad and one of the City fanzines had a headline 'There ain't no cure for the Somerton blues'. Which was a reference to City playing a friendly at your old Somerton Park ground in the 60s or 70s. Always stuck with me that pun.
