Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my recent experience with Seat Unique and how it has impacted me, in the hopes of making other City fans aware of the dangers of dynamic pricing—something I, unfortunately, did not fully understand until now.
When Manchester City reached the FA Cup Final, I was over the moon and determined to make it a special experience for my nine-year-old nephew, who is a huge City fan. Living in London, he’s only ever seen City play at local clubs, and usually from opposition areas, where he can’t fully support the team he loves.
My nephew has Tourette’s Syndrome and has been struggling to come to terms with his diagnosis. It’s been really hard on him, and I thought that taking him to Wembley to watch City in the FA Cup Final would lift his spirits and give him something positive to hold onto after a difficult year.
I decided to buy two hospitality tickets through Seat Unique because I believed that was my only real chance at getting into the venue. I honestly had no understanding of what the face value of the tickets would be. Given that it was an FA Cup Final, I just assumed that the price being asked was the true value of the tickets. Even though the cost was high—£3,147.90 for two tickets—I wanted so badly to give my nephew this experience that I put it on my credit card and planned to pay it off over a few months.
I later discovered that identical tickets through Seat Unique were being sold for £399 each—a difference of more than £2,300! I contacted Seat Unique in dismay, hoping for some understanding or a gesture of goodwill. Their response was a cold explanation about dynamic pricing, comparing it to hotel rooms and flights. They said prices drop and rise with demand, but they offered me nothing—not even an apology. Since then, I’ve sent a further complaint to Seat Unique, which they have completely ignored.
I contacted Manchester City’s Ticket Compliance Team, and they have now logged my complaint against the ticket provider, I have also left negative reviews on google and trust pilot.
To be honest, I’ve been too embarrassed to share what happened with friends and family. I’ve been trying to carry the weight of this horrible experience myself, but I wanted to come here and share it with fellow supporters, because I don’t want anyone else to go through this.
I can’t help but feel financially exploited. I paid over three times the current price for the exact same seats, and the justification I was given was just a blanket statement about “market demand.” But when prices swing so wildly, it’s hard to see it as anything but taking advantage of fans’ passion and loyalty. What should have been a beautiful experience for me and my nephew has been completely overshadowed by the sense that I’ve been ripped off.
Despite everything, my nephew is absolutely buzzing for the game tomorrow, so I’m going to try my very best to put all these negative feelings aside and just focus on his smile. Let’s hope we get to witness City lifting the cup.
Has anyone else had this experience with them? I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions.
Thanks for reading
