That was promotion - with three games to play. A look at the table suggested that Southampton could still catch City - hence the question.
Now checked fixtures and it looks like the league was virtually won on 9/5 when Southampton also drew at Orient leaving them 2 points with 1 game to play (at City) but with a much poorer goal average. City actually won the the league at Charlton on 13/5. Leaving both teams with nothing to play for as that draw at Orient had secure promotion for Southampton - Orient were already relegated.

Orient have a cracking little ground. Only a 10-15 minute walk from the stations and they are a good set of fans. The area can be a bit sketchy.

Never liked Derby fans. They act as if their club is one of the most important in football history. I will have a bet with anyone here that they sing WWYWYWS or something along those lines. Inevitable.

Yes, I think the 6-0 defeat was Mel Machin's last game. We had the stand behind the goal, paddock at the front and a 2-tiered seating above it.

My first every City game was the reverse fixture the following April at Maine Road - a 1-1 draw. Great memories!

I went to Derby away once. Got lost on the way home. Shithole of a place, not that far away but takes fkin ages to get there down shitty roads.
