The worst thing is that the Cov player was level with the naked eye. The VAR equipment is not precise enough to measure the exact moment when the ball leaves the foot for the pass. This margin of error means that calling someone offside by a few centimetres can never be 100 per cent correct. VAR is good for overturning very poor decisions where someone has been obviously wrongly flagged. It is not fit for purpose for very tight calls.Another nail in the coffin for VAR, surely? It has succeeded in completely sucking the joy out of football and there’s a real chance it’ll never come back. Well done all you pundits and journalists out there, through your constant sniping, bringing in this behemoth, that‘s killed the game that we love.
