FA Cup Third Round - West Ham (a) 7.55pm Friday 6th Jan

We were drawn there in the 3rd round in 2007/8 where it was 0-0 and we won the replay.

The game was memorable for three things. The first was Rob Styles (talking of bent refs) denying us two what appeared to be absolute stonewall penalties.

There was one on Vassell I think but the one that took the biscuit was Anton Ferdinand tripping Petrov. It was absolutely a nailed on penalty which we could see from the other end of the ground yet Styles gave a goal kick.

Then Kevin Horlock was in with the City fans and got paraded around the concourse on someone's shoulders at half time.

The other thing I always associate with that game was that it wasn't long before the Munich 50th anniversary game and The Guardian printed a story about City fans singing *We're all going to the Golden Jubilee" at the game. Quite a few City fans took Barry Glendinning to task over that saying it didn't happen. Glendinning retreated ever more desperately first saying the journalist had heard it at the game, then that he'd heard it in a pub and finally, when challenged to name the pub, said someone had told the journalist that it had been sung in a pub.

Years later it turned out that it was complete bullshit and that the City PR guy, Paul Tyrrell, had asked The Guardian to print the story as they were worried about what the fans going to the derby match were going to do. Unbelievable Jeff.
Wasn’t it Daniel Taylor who wrote that in The Guardian? I’m sure he was subsequently interviewed by BlueMoon and gave some garbled sort of explanation.

This has probably been asked elsewhere in the thread, but anyone any idea of the cost of ticket? Don't really want to pay £55 to see a second XI. I don't think the £30 cap aplys to the cup.

Wolves were charged £20 in 3rd round at West Ham last year. Liverpool £25 in the 4th round with a £5 discount for ST holders. With a big ground to fill I can't see this being any more than £25

It was Daniel Taylor and he eventually admitted that it was based on total heresay. It was an urban myth which tells you a lot about the quality of journalism these days.

I spoke to him about it a few years later when we were both doing something for Radio 5Live as I was really annoyed about it and told him so. He told me (and I've absolutely no reason to disbelieve him) that the club were shit scared of what might happen at the Derby, a few weeks later so Paul Tyrrell got a few journalists to write stories like the one he wrote, which they thought would head off any trouble. Even Kevin Parker was pressed into action iirc. To me it was a disgraceful way for the club to act and typical of their heavy-handed approach and how they were happy to take our money but essentially saw the ordinary match-going fan as a nuisance and someone who they always assumed the worst of. Daniel's a very bright guy and extremely nice and I'd like to think he had a twinge of conscience about that story.

When does the TV picks get announced for this round? When will we know for sure what day/time we've got. Looking at the draw, this is probably the tastiest tie though so pretty good chance of being picked for TV I think.

Anyone knows how many games per round go on tv for FA cup? 2 on BBC and 2 on BT per round??
