FA Youth Cup 2014/15 Thread

The back 4 have been excellent, as were Wood and Bryan for the most of it. (other than a couple of give aways in really poor positions that Bryan needs to get out of his game) Just a shame that Celina, Barker and Nemane haven't been able to get much going

The thing with skillful players like Barker is that they stand out hugely in youth teams but so often they are nowhere near making the step up to the first team. Not saying barker won't make it but he needs to improvement dramatically before he does.

Granted i've only seen him in these 2 final games but i'm not seeing the Solanke hype either, he'll end up in the championship at best. Just doesn't seem to standout in any department. Da Silva is the only one from their academy i can see gettting near their first team anytime soon.

To me when there is a real special player at youth level, you just know it. I get that vibe from Kelechi although it's still early. And I got that vibe from Leroy Sane for Schalke against City in the UEFA Youth League and he's since gone on to score against Real Madrid and Wolfsburg for Schalke's first team. I don't really get that feeling from Barker... doesn't mean they won't end up being special but they will have to develop a lot.

Obviously the focus will be on the Chelsea win.....but there was a lot of positives in that second half especially the way we were linking up on the attack from the back through the midfield when Garcia came on. The philosophy is being implemented and it wild only get better

Hard luck lads - one thing you can't knock them for is effort. We lacked an outlet up front (like Solanke for them) and maybe more of a ball player in midfield. Other than that we have some top young footballers.

Very impressed with our tall centre back, showed pace, composure and passes it out well from the back. What's his name?

I know what you mean. Sane carried Schalke when we dominated the game. We couldn't get near him. Had barker or any of the city lads done that tonight you'd say they were ready for first team stardom but they didn't. Would add that these boys are young... Give them another two or three years in EDS and maybe they will do just that and make an impact. Kane didn't set the world on fire but his impact for spuds has been phenomenal. Some have it early, others take time. Promising signs and the futures only ggoing to get brighter.

Agree with all of that, didnt realise Sane had got into the first team at Schalke.

I thought that Garcia would of gave us this in the number 10 role instead of celina

not impressed with kean bryan too one footed and for no 6 (sweeper) he does not have the skill set to bring the ball out from the deep something chelsea player colkett did superbly . marcus wood looks a better prospect than bryan
both fullbacks maffeo and anglino were the superb and so were the center backs

bottom line is though chelsea were physical stronger than us but they won because they were tactically better than us
The problems which we see in the first team are there to see in here too where players are told to play out of the back but
don't know how to ( the no 6 kean bryan should be going back between the center backs to create option) and we lost the battle in the midfield where we were tactically outplayed .

Having seen u18s and the eds paly both patrick viera and jason wilox have got lot to learn before they can be considered for the top job.

With you completely on that. Well almost, i won't pretend i've seen anything of Sane.

Kelechi didn't have a particularly impressive game tonight but there's just something about him that stands out from the rest. His natural movement is there already, he anticipates thinks and has the ability to find a yard of space in the box.

Going to be interesting to see what City do with him this summer. Do you push him into the 4th striker spot where he'll maybe see a dozen games if he's lucky but will benefit from being around the first team and hopefully develop even further or do we send him somewhere on loan where he can hopefully play every week and learn what it's like to be a first team player?

Personally i'd like to see him go on loan rather than help to fill a homegrown quota and think he'd get more benefit from it. But we really need to research who we send him to properly, get it wrong and we'll set him back big time.
