Fans back at the Etihad

Can't see this happening until the new year at the earliest, with Chris Witty's comments about social distancing yesterday. I don't know how clubs will implement getting a few fans back in.

Not sure if there is another thread about this but Boris just announced that he hopes spectators will be allowed to return to football stadia from the middle of October. Not sure if that means limited capacity or full grounds. Looks like certain clubs will lose out on another chunk of match day income moving into next season. Given that Karren Brady said the other week it was hoped we would be back at the beginning of the season I guess that clubs are now hastily rewriting their 2020/21 budgets

If Johnson said it, I think we can all look forward to it never happening anyway....

I agree. I'm 70 & fit as a fiddle, with no underlying health issues. in fact I reckon I could give a lot of 40 & 50 year olds a good run for their money, but the fact remains that all my organs are 70 years old. That's the danger. After a lifetime watching City I won't be going back until it's confirmed as being safe to do so. On the other hand, this televised closed-door shite us doing my head in. Roll on the vaccine (if it ever happens).

I’m 56. Thanks to City my heart is about 108 though, so it would have to be a pretty sparsely populated ground before you’d get me back in there at present!

Before lockdown they were justifying not stopping the coming scouse and other games by saying that at a game you are in the open and surrounded by a few people so there's little transmission risk. Obviously the No.10 wonks, ministers and scientists had never been to a game in their lives. The crammed concourse, low ceilings, elbow to elbow at the bar, you're squashed and 5 deep iin a confined concrete room trying to get to a urinal at half time for a piss. Trying to get out at the end, funnelled through a door (south stand) and pushing together through the corridors and stairs all jammed together. The singing, shouting to get heard before, half time, and the end. Surrounded by pissed up happiness (on a good day!). I couldn't think of a better place for spreading a respiratory virus. One superspreader and hundreds infected. Maybe the government are still not aware of this, but I'm sure that the club will do a risk assessment and numbers will be so low to be safe that I can't see it happening except for a tiny fraction of what we normally have. Until there's a vaccine.

Can't see normality returning i.e. full-on full stadiums until we have a vaccine, however they now seem like a realistic proposition whereas 3 months ago they told us that they were a distance long-shot.

It sounds like all children are going back to School in September because the risk for them is minimal. Could we not find a way to have stadiums attended mostly by children until we get a vaccine?
