Kehoe, who has been running the pub with his wife Ann for the past 15 years, said since the introduction of the smoking ban in 2007 and duty increases on beer, the business barely ticks over during the week and if it wasn't for match days it probably would not stay open.

i not disputing the guy, but i dont understand where hes coming from here. i drank in that pub long before city even contemplated moving to eastlands and it was dead back then. yeah if city werent there it would probably shut, but surely 1200 people coming in every other saturday for 9 months must make up for a loss of so little trade during the week. he also rents the chippy bit out. most pubs round there would kill for that much business.

You drank in that pub before City moved there, jesus what ever possesed you to do such a thing!

went to college with a lad from beswick. think it used to called suzy q's or something back then, but yeah, it was still a dump. all the pool tables had cat piss stains on them. lol.

It's always been Mary D's, christ it was called Mary D's when my Uncle had his 40th in the upstairs nearly 23 years ago. Suzy q's was a pool/snooker hall in town, if its the one im thinking of its now called the Rainbow snooker club on whitworth street.

Sorry I don't have it all as i just bought a copy of the paper from smiths and typed it out. I have done a bit more but can't be bothered doing any more!!

Planning permission is yet to be submitted for the development but Kehoe's dream is to have a new building on the site of Mary D's with an entrance on Ashton New Road for the hotel, whose foyer would be on the first floor. The main entrance for the pub would remain on Grey Mare Lane but he also wants the space to incorporate a chip shop, bookmakers, newsagent, hairdresser or chemist. Kehoe said his aim was to create “a hub” for the community.

The regeneration of Beswick precinct and market is nearly complete and you can spit on it from Mary D's, so this grandiose vision of a community hub/hotel seems a bit pointless.

they cant get rid of the dear, shit beer, can never move, always get covered in beer shit hole i love it, in the stuart pearce days it was the high-light of the day

They rake in over 10k on a match day, so suprised they have to worry about money!

Only been in a couple of times and I found that back room a bit embarrassing, like a City theme park for scallies.

Which is now called Rileys and has been for around 4/5 years. Rileys have just gone into administration and there is a posibility of a name change again. Was it called Breaks before Suzy Q's?
