Fans on the pitch at Bradford 1989 pictures

Love seeing the old pictures or videos of games like these with fans would love one day to see myself in one of them
Thats reminded me of the time I took a mate who didnt go to football much to Luton Away (mid 90s I think) we were right behind the goal in the city end & when we scored everyone went mental,
My mate got the video & kept playing the goal over & over again in slowmo desperatly trying to see himself on the Tv, I dont think he ever lived down the piss taking he used to get about that.

Loads of times when I couldn’t get a ticket through City in those days, I used to write to the home club explaining that I was a neutral fan trying to complete the 92 club and could I have two tickets for their game against Manchester City? I’d use the return address of a mate I had in Altrincham and enclose a blank cheque. Worked nearly every time. More often than not they’d send top tickets in main stand.

One of the all time great City awaydays
Wish some of the teenage Twitter plastic redshirt twats were made to watch that.
“No fans, no history”
They haven’t got a fucking clue
It was an amazing time to be a young City fan, there were so many brilliant away days around that time - Blackpool, Huddersfield, the fancy dress at Stoke, Notts County etc etc - none of them what people now would call “big games” except for Bradford bit they were all mental adventures in their own way

You would have thought the Altrincham address would have aroused a few suspicions but fair play to you as it worked!

70's, 80's and some of the 90's. We didnt know what was going to happen, on and off the pitch, for virtually every away game.
I dont think there has been a better era for 16 to 25 (ish) year olds, than those times. Cheap enough to get in, travel was decent, fashion etc. The decades before meant 10 hours on a coach to get down south, if it made it. Rationing, and no spare money. A few went in the 60's, but it was a couple of hundred at best. (except 68). And since all seater it has changed beyond recognition. Massively reduced allocation, need to commit a month before the match, assuming you have the points. Not all your mates have the points, so not the same anymore. I go with my sons to the odd away here and there, it's good, but before, it was effing brilliant.

We must be similar vintage mate, agree the awaydays were amazing fun back then. Trips to Oldham were usually a great laugh
