'Far right' heading for election win in Brazil

Basically that is what she said, (The first line not the clever bit after :-) I am not going to post on here for or against left wing politics but the voters of brazil seem to have had enough of the endemic corruption so they chose this man. We seem to be heading for strange times.

If you take the very long view, it's no bad thing for politicians to be reminded of how red in tooth and claw democracy is, and how the comfortable political classes (of all hues on the spectrum) have taken the voters for granted for far too long. But as I say, that's the long view.

It’s yet another example of how electorates are so sick and tired of politicians not listening to them and won’t put up with it anymore.

The lurch to so called populist parties and politicians can be stopped but only if the mainstream usual characters listen and sort themselves out.

They won’t and more and more we will see similar results.

This.

And Brexit. and Trump. And AfD. And M5S. And Hungary. And others.

The more you ignore people, mock and insult them for their beliefs, the more you call them racist or sexist or fascist or whatever for holding right wing opinions then the more you remove the social currency from joining populist parties.

This is a huge lesson the worldwide left has to learn. Almost to a Party. You can't insult or condescend people into voting for you.

My daughter in law is brazillian although now living in Australia, she can't stand the guy and is appalled all her friends back home voted for him. It seems they are so sick of the left wing corruption they will take someone who is against homosexuality, equal rights, and just about everything else we atke for granted in a normal civilise society. She says crime is so rife everyone expects to be attacked and robbed and they see this guy as the only hope.
Bolsonaro is fairly unique in Brazilian politics as the only one they couldn’t accuse of corruption. She’s right about the crime, even in my small circle of friends I know people who have been kidnapped and robbed of their car, robbed of mobile phones, marched to cash points and made to withdraw money; all at gunpoint.

My son and daughter in law are newly married (in Oz) they are going to Brazil for a ceremony for her family. They have asked/said we cannot go as basically the violence is so bad and they would be so worried for us. Her family are from outside Soa Paulo (sp) and therefore not in a major city but they still dont want us there.

Whilst in Oz we spoke to a number of her friends, all Brazillian and saw heated arguements because her friends were voting for Bolsonaro. my D.I.L. castigated them for supporting someone whose views on homosexuality were opposite to her beliefs and yet one of her very dear friends is gay and yet she voted for him ! Whn 'questioned' she said she could no longer tolerate the corruption. It was weird, a lesbian was supporting a man who seems to abhor homosexuality purley becasue she wanted an end to left wing corruption.

It is why I do not understand those that hate Trump. You have to look why he was elected. Remove the rich, white Clinton/Bush/Kennedy candidate and ordinary people might listen to you, if you dont you get Trump.

It’s not weird, she voted for what’s best for her country. His personal views are different than his political views, his beef (politically) with homosexuality is it being taught in school to children so she may see that removed from the curriculum.
I’m not sure why they don’t want you to go to the ceremony, seems odd to me and a shame as the parties are normally epic. I can’t see why you wouldn’t be safe, staying in a hotel and taking an Uber everywhere you need to go.

One of the fastest growing economies in the world isn't it? Be interesting to see what he does with drug dealers, I think he will make the Philippines President look like a saint.
