Fave Whacky Racer :)

I always said that Wacky Races should be made into a film.
Alan Rickman would make a great Dick Dastardly.

The cartoon came about from a film called The Great Race with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in it. It was on the telly a couple of weeks ago. It had Natalie Wood as the Penelope Pitstop type character. Jack Lemmon played the Dick Dastardly type role, and bizarrely Peter Falk (Columbo) played the human "Mutley" type character... It even had pigeons in it, which I suppose led onto the Catch the Pigeon cartoon that followed.

It reminded me that Natalie Wood was supremely fit.

Anyone remember Dastardly and Muttley in Catch The Pigeon ? :)
When watching City away in the 70s, the programme was on around 12:30 lunchtime on a Saturday. We used to stop at pubs that were showing it, or we moved on! Compulsive viewing.

Of all the cartoons of that era, this one definitely had the most candidates for 'Yewtree' forty years later.

Beat me to it!

The Anthill Mob were my favorites.

There were seven of them. The leader was Clyde, another was called Ring-A-Ding and the other five didn't have names. Hanna and Barbera made some stonking cartoons.

I liked this one.
Me and my brother always used to pick a car in each episode and see if we could guess the winner.
I bought the DVD for my kids and they love it - they do the guessing game too!

Had to Goggle this as I was sure I remembered Clyde using more names
The Ant Hill Mob was a group of 1920s gangsters who competed in Wacky Races. Their names are Clyde (leader,), Ring-A-Ding Danny, Rug Bug Benny, Mac, Kirby and Willy

I looked on Sickipedia and they only named two of them. Great to finally learn the other five!

Another spin off was The Perils of Penelope Pitstop.
She was always being harrassed by The Hooded Claw.
The Ant Hill Mob appeared in this but their car was changed from The Bullet Proof Bomb to Chug-a-Boom.
