So many others from that era too .... The Dream Syndicate, Hoodoo Gurus, Bangles, Green On Red, The Rain Parade, The Church, Let's Active, The Long Ryders, all (loosely) connected via the Paisley Underground movement ... REM included)

Add Hanoi Rocks, Echo & The Bunnymen, Icicle Works and stretch it by a year to include The Stone Roses too ;-)
