Favourite ever stand-out season for individual player

Just thought I'd bring this up as a topic of discussion/debate, and was triggered by the video on City's website today about Yaya's 2013/14 season.

The question is, what is your favourite stand-out season for one individual player?

Doesn't have to be your favourite player ever. Or who you consider to be the best player ever. Doesn't even have to be a City player.

But, if you had to just pick one particular player who was outstanding in one particular season - who would it be, and why?

Favourite ever stand-out is a tricky one, but if we’re looking for players who had a season that was head-and-shoulders above any other season they had…

Kinkladze was obviously a shining light in the otherwise-diabolical 95/96 relegation season.

Mark Kennedy in the second Royle promotion season. Most of the good stuff that we did came through him.

I can’t pick one from the Keegan promotion season, which was one of my favourite ever, because there were too many so no one single player stood out. How do you choose between Berkovic and Benarbia in midfield or the goal machines of Goater and Huckerby up front? You’d have to pick Benarbia I guess but it’s tricky.

The later 2000s all sort of morph into a sort of greyness with no particular stand out until the Thaksin takeover, but even then can anyone really recall anyone having a stand-out memorable season from the Hughes years?

After that - as others have already said above. Yaya in particular.

SWPs last season of his first spell with us before his Chelsea move. He was electric at times that season in a pretty poor side. One of very few, in fact really the only one who got us on the edge of our seats at the time. Was that the same season we were a penalty kick away from qualifying for Europe? Drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough.

Yaya Touré was the boss of the PL in 2011-12 and 2013-14.

Mancini lost the dressing room off the back of telling the rest of the team they were shit without Yaya in 2012 (after he locked them in the changing rooms for 45 mins at Everton). But look at the way they lost their way without him after he went off against QPR, look at the way he dominated the league in 2013-14, Mancini may have worded it wrong but he had a point.

Kevin De Bruyne across many seasons of his career with us has been exceptional:

With that consistency it has to be argued that De Bruyne is City and the PL’s greatest ever player.

And Rodri in 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 has arguably been our best player in each season.

But I read this about Rodri last season and it made me sit up a bit about how good he really is.
