Somewhere talking sensible nonsense ; )
Mine is Oliver Twist(1968). Absolutely epic musical i never tire of watching. Quality acting by Mark Lester(Oliver) Jack Wild(Artful Dodger) Ron Moody(Fagin) Oliver Reed(Bill Sykes & dog, Bullseye) Shani Wallis (Nancy) and bit parts - Harry Secombe(Mr Bumble) and Leonard Rossiter)Sowerby.

Some really upbeat songs and great sets of Victorian london. My favourite film of all time. What's yours and why?

I've seen a few musicals and enjoyed them all, but I was lucky enough to get to see Back To The Future in Manchester before COVID struck and I can tell you, it was one of the best things I've ever seen on a stage (concerts included).

West Side Story and The Greatest Showman - both for the high energy levels and memorable music. Les Mis too downbeat for me.

Probably Scrooge (1970) with Albert Finney as my favourite TV musical.

I don't particularly like musicals (probably after being forced to go to watch Hello Dolly on a school trip to a London theatre) but Oliver with Robert Lindsay as Fagin was good as was the Jersey Boys.

Hamilton is the Whistler's Mother/American Gothic/Nighthawks of the genre.

Into The Woods a distant second.

For sheer fun? A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, or Book of Mormon.

Most musical theatre (er) drives me crazy however, and a substantial amount is god-awful.

One of the most exquisite musicals put to song. I have taken the La Liberte of playing with subtitles for the neaderlithic ones among you that cannot Le sausage En Francais like wot me and Dennis can.

Notre Dame Des Paris

Bravo

Garou et Daniel et Patric

Enchante!

My daughter studied Musical Theatre at Cumbria Uni - got a First - and saw a lot of her in musicals over 3 years and I found something that I had never had any interest in really enjoyable - so my answer is I have many favourites but would probably go Into the Woods as a favourite

I was an orphan in our school production. I loved it and still know the words to every bloody song. If I remember correctly the 13 year old me took quite a shine (from afar) to Nancy. She never looked my way sadly. I was just an orphan which in the cast was lowest of the low :-(

A guilty pleasure, way too many to list but I tend to prefer the 50's stuff with the likes of Gene Kelly, Ann Miller, Cyd Charisse, Danny Kaye etc

Interesting that there's a new West Side Story coming out next month. I'd have thought impossible shoes to fill, even fir Speilberg. It's also based more on the original stage show so it may be a little different from the film.
