Favourite player?

I met him too in Bolton in 1971;he was doing the opening ceremony for a shop.He was very gracious and lovely to me and my friend, at the time two star struck 14 year olds. I think I had a copy of my FAB208 magazine which he happily autographed for me, even though it was nothing to do with footy. Top bloke on the day.

At the time it wasn't unusual for footballers to do shop opening ceremonies,I'm told George Best did the honours for the Seafarer chippy in Northwich.

Imagine any of today's players doing anything like that. I mean ffs Chelsea players can't even acknowledge kids who've been waiting to see them.
I never knew Best opened the Seafayrers. I moved to Northwich in 2006 and I remember going in that chippy one Saturday. Got 4 Fish n chips and a sausage n chips with various curry, peas n gravys and some cans. I nearly fainted when she told me how much. Never went in again. Must of still been paying Georgie boys opening fee.

Apparently around about 1970. Hub from there.

I used to like Seafarer, but agree its second mortgage territory! We left 6 years ago, I liked the Jolly Roger at Kingsmead and next door Cross Over Golden for Chinese. I haven't found a chippy I like since we got to Macc. I only have chips now when up on Fylde coast at offsprings, Seniors or Drakes in Torquay. I don't know if ' celebs' opened those shops though :-)

From what I understand from mates still there, Seafarer has closed.

Where abouts are you? I assumed with your user name you lived in Moston! One of my aunties used to live just off Lightbowne Rd in the 60s. I can still remember the street!

I used to live behind the Jolly Roger in Kingsmead. Yes, I'm a Moston kid from Lightbowne Rd. Not lived there since 2000. It's all changed now. Kiddos sister had a chippy right near our house,it was on Egbert street, off Lightbowne road. Sorry for the derailment folks :)

Final derailment. I had a guess with you saying moved 2006 that it would possibly be Kingsmead, lots of folks came in to that area. You must have been at tail end, building started 1994. Apparently used to be Leftwich Farm on the site, hub delivered papers there early teens.

Oh I like a good chippy.

Anyway second fave player is KDB.

I have a pic of him standing in a pose that exactly mirrors one of the King from about 1972.

The player that i first loved was David White, shame his career didn't get to where his talent deserved, obviously the demon that ruined his real life also affected his working one.

It’s hard to answer this question because I’ve supported City through the shit times and the great times, so my faves by decade are:
1970s - in the 70s we have some legendary players, but I always remember Joe Corrigan. He was a giant of a man and one of the best goalies in the country. Alas, his generation included Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence, so he didn’t get many caps.
1980s - a very tough period for City and we didn’t have great players once the class of the 1970s started to retire. I remember Steve Redmond making his debut as a youngster and playing well for us throughout this decade.
1990s - this was when we had literal highs and lows, plummeting to the 2nd division and scrambling back up again. We had some terrible managers. Niall Quinn was a favorite player of mine.
2000s - things started to change in this decade and we signed some amazing players. Before ADUG acquired us in 2008 we had some great players, my favorite being Vincent Kompany.
2010s -
who whooo. Here we go. Now we are truly awesome, and David Silva was the superstar for me.
2020s - welcome to modern day - gotta be KDB.

Overall David Silva is our best player of all time. The Magician, Blue Merlin, the X-Factor.
