FC Basel V Manchester City - Post-Match Thread

Really professional performance tonight by the lads.

Granted there was a few sloppy moments defensively, but you can only play the team in front of you .

So many players turned up, however the gun dog and Bernie deserve the aplaudits! What great timing to have nearly a full outfit...

A bit harsh mate, as many of us did just that in the match day thread (lots of praise offered) and didn’t think it was necessary to copy that here to justify discussing ways we could improve on the performance.

Genuinely surprised with the reaction to fairly moderate, valid opinions in here tonight.

Don't think its you specifically mate.

But that guy who discussed the "woeful" defense and the other who said "if we defend like that against the big sides we're in trouble" crap . . . yeah, if we attack like that and have 75% possession against the big sides we're crushing them, too, so what's yer point?

For me, on the whole, it's a huge win and that's what matters. If we want to do high points and low points, cool, but then acknowledge both, I think.

And that response tells me you have no idea what you are talking about but just want to bring attention to yourself so it’s time to end the conversation.

Diluted, deluded...Iconic, ironic...let's call the whole thing off.

I can’t speak for anyone else but my concerns have nothing to do with that or “giving 100%”. It was about some of the bad decisions we were making toward the end that lead to good chances for Basel.

And I am positive Pep will have noted them as well and will be working on them with the team.

Give it a fucking rest will ya.

We’ve had a period of games every 3 days with several of our first team players unavailable, we’ve got a busy schedule ahead and the players who have been available are physically and mentally fucked. At 4-0 they’re allowed to switch off a bit and relax, the job was done and they’re saving energy for the games to come. If we had conceded I’m sure the lads would have stepped it up a gear but there’s got to be a balance. You can’t expect 14/15 players to play this often with no break and be completely on form 90 minutes every 3 days, it’s impossible.

Please shut up, you’re speaking nonsense.

What is your opinion of our defensive performance tonight ?

We should have conceded a penalty and were suspect in 3 or 4 other situations where better teams would have punished us. Those are the fine margins in this competition.

Your thoughts ?

I wasn't having a go at you your a good poster, we played a team to beat what was in font of us, it's hard to keep that intensity up when your 0-4, I'd love the perfect performance but it's a fucking rare thing in football.
Fair enough. I can see that side. I think we could have done better, though, and I am sure we will in the next round, assuming Typical City does rear it’s ugly head in the return. ;-)

so you didn't see, feel you can't comment on the good points but feel you have enough first-hand information to have a go on the "bad bits".
Ha ha, everyone's way too sensitive on here. I'm not even commenting on the game, I'm commenting on the comments on the game! I can't say how good we were going forward, because I haven't seen it yet. I was just making the general point that we are more than capable of giving away goals against decent opposition, that it's not a crime to note this, and that Pep will no doubt have noted this (assuming we were occasionally poor in defence, which everyone seems to agree on, and therefore I'm assuming to be the case, even though I haven't seen the game yet).

Official statement from Basel, they have apologised unreservedly for not being Real Madrid, the official response from Manchester City is that they realise they may have to play slightly better against better opposition and would, in turn like to apologise to twerps on the internet for the 4 misplaced passes made this evening, they promise to try harder against Wigan Athletic.
