FC Basel V Manchester City - Post-Match Thread

one brilliant first class performance...

Hats off to the Basel fans, 90 minutes singing, most fans stayed right until the end singing the team off ( imagine Etihad 4 nil down on 85 minutes ! ). Even as teams walked off at half time there was a right noise coming from Basel fans.. But its ok for them because they don't have to put up with ermmmmm, well actually its just same !

Atmosphere at St. Jakob park is usually a great one, I love watching matches there - before & after. Looked bitterly cold too

We are certainly starting to see the Bernado of Monaco and all those U Tube clips rather than the hesitant player of last .autumn

No he wasn’t, he was talking about the retu
Actions speak louder than words, especially when you take Kompany’s words out of context. Vinny was clearly talking about intensity in regards to our approach to games, not our intensity when we’re 4-0 up.
no he wasn’t. He was specifically talking about the return leg when asked about taking it easier. He mentioned that for example a 2-2 draw or 3-2 defeat doesn’t set the right tone for the next match. Completely in the context of this discuss.

First class performance although I think we were advantaged by having a good spell of games leading in to this one with Basel only just back fresh from a 7 week winter break.

If they were given the penalty I doubt it would have changed the result bar the scoreline.

We could have and should have scored at least 6 maybe and Sterling looked off his game ( apparently hamstring tightness ) and Kun was dragged out too wide too often as a result.

Sane added the speed that could have killed them on the break if he had started and once he gets more experience with his passing and sense of what is around him he will become a very valuable player with us for many years hopefully.

Not what I would call one for the ages or my favourite away performance from City in the Chumps League to date by any stretch but very enjoyable none the less.

Hope we get Manure or Chelsea ( as if ) in the QTR's

I know Basel weren’t elite opposition but that was a beautiful exhibition of football. Just as important, this team has the sort of hunger and determination that marks us out as a fearsome unit even on an off day.

Imagine being a defender up against this mob. Split seconds on the ball, and to decide what to do with it, or you’re robbed,
