Completely agree on all points.
Considering Bob was up against the established parties with funding for leaflets etc, Bob and his team of volunteers came 2nd ahead of Libs, Tories, Greens and BNP twats.

Two years ago, Moston Labour won with 2,700 votes, last year with 2,200.
This time they won with 1,800 so was a very hollow victory for Paul Murphy. Clearly Bob took many hundreds of votes from Murphy, in disgust at his betrayal to local residents wishes.

Please if every one reading this can go back one page to page 25 and just donate £5 each, the amount needed to be raised can be reached.
I believe the amount donated via BlueMoon has been very good indeed - just need that final push!

Are you a professional spin doctor or is it just a hobby? Bob (sic) would've been hard pressed to not have finished ahead of the Lib Dems, given that they decided against wasting their time by fielding a candidate. However, they did recommend Lib Dem supporters should vote for him, as an alternative to Labour.

With regards to the disgust of local residents at their betrayal at the hands of councillor Murphy & his colleagues, it may be worth noting that significantly less than 1 in 10 residents of the Moston ward felt moved enough by the issue to register a protest by voting for the man who stood against the proposed development.

You continually cite your opposition to FC Utds plans on the grounds of local opposition to the loss of a greenfield site in Moston. I live down the road in Harpurhey and know many people in Moston who are in favour of the development (I also know a few who are against it). Granted, not all of them live on St Mary's road but Broadhurst fields is a leisure facility for all residents of Moston, not just the select few who live overlooking it.

Unfortunately, this whole situation should never have arisen. The council, and FC Utds preferred venue was 10 Acre Lane. As far as I know there was no local groundswell of opinion against a stadium being built there but for some mysterious reason the council backtracked on the idea very late in the day, leaving FC to look for an alternative venue.

No, not a spin doctor, just someone (who actually voted Green for the past 15 years) and likes to see green areas protected as best they can. You are correct, the Libs didnt stand, my apologies.
I, like many of the ''opposition'' have no objections to FCUM in Moston - but why does it have to be on a green field? If it was Tesco we'd be campaigning the same.

I wouldn't read too much into statistics about how many people in the area didn't vote. I'd guess if Bob (why the sic?) hadn't stood for election, then roughly the same people would still have voted, just spreading the votes around more. Apathy runs through the the country at local elections and sadly many people against the development have simply resigned themselves to it happening, or even believing that if Bob had got in, how could he change the whole process on his own. Many local people are putting their faith in the judicial review instead - hence the request for funds to be able to do so.

You are correct, the field isn't just for a select few, and if this development gets the go ahead, it WILL be a select few that get to use it!

It wasn't a mysterious reason why Ten Acre Lane fell through either. It was too near to Eastlands and City's plans.

Re: FC United - fundraising campaigners seek support (page 25)

I agree with you on voter apathy but was pointing out how few votes were cast for the "anti development" candidate as a response to your assumption that Labour lost hundreds of votes because of people's disgust about the councils plans. Traditional voter apathy or not, I would've expected more of a protest vote if there was a great deal of local opposition to the development.

I do take your point about building on parkland but the field has been fenced off for some time. End of the day it really should've been 10 acres lane n I can't see what impact that would have had on City's plans (I had heard a rumour that the plan was cancelled because of City's upcoming development but didn't believe it).

It's even more disappointing when you see the state the 10 acre lane complex has fallen into, it's crying out for investment..

Adding up the previous 2 elections votes,
2011 = 3595
2012 = 3350

So 245 less people voted this year, and the Labour majority was slashed by 433 (from 2,234 to 1,801)
The Lib Dems polled 312 in 2011.
Taking the 433 and assuming all the Lib Dems voted for Bob, that's 745 - so 185 more people voted for Bob, which I think (in these days of poor turn outs) is very good. Remember, Bob was an independent and funded his own leaflets etc. He had a hardy band of volunteers delivering leaflets but they couldn't drop in every door in the ward. There are a lot of positives to be taken from the election result.

I thought Ten Acres Lane was being developed into a judo (or similar martial arts) centre?
I agree too, that TAL wouldn't have been in competition / a threat to the development at Eastlands and tellingly, there were no complaints at all from locals about FCUM being there.
The council (in my opinion) took that lack of opposition for granted and transferred it to neighbouring Moston assuming the same level of support would apply. This is evident in the councils own assessment of the other two sites along with Moston, considered after TAL fell through. Both the Wythenshawe Park (at the athletics stadium) and Hough End (sharing with Broughton Park RUFC) were felt not suitable due to anticipated opposition from locals - which is exactly what happened in Moston but was then ignored!
The Moston and TAL sites are completely different in terms of surrounding residential areas, access for parking, wildlife, and current use.
