FC United Thread

Firstly I'd like to confess my sin of having attended an FC United match as a 14 year old boy with my best mate in school.

I'm of an age where football violence was largely gone from the game, and never experienced some of the things that many on here did.

A third lad with us on the day decided to tell people sat behind us that I was a City fan, at which point I was told I was "fucking brave" for showing my face there and was then grabbed by the back of my jacket hood and pulled over the seats by three lads older than me, I'd say early 20s. Not one adult thought it would be appropriate to stop a child getting attacked and for that, I have always hoped that your shitbag club gets obliterated. If 11 Fred Wests were cloned I'd want them to beat FC United.

Mardarses who ran at the first sign of dominance being over. Nothing more.

How’ve you calculated that figure?

Despite having crowds three times that size you’ve lost money for years. You forecast a profit of £100,000 last year and roughly broke even. That doesn’t include repaying your debts, because you haven’t (other than a third of the money that was donated to repay the debts) that’s how badly your business is going. Clearly the break even figure for you to handle your actual financial responsibilities, like paying back the council & the big issue, creating the sinking fund for your 3G you are obliged to do or actually think about repaying some of those community shares* your board recognise that growing the crowd is one of your priorities yet they have dropped the original budgeted assumption of an extra 1,000 to an extra 500. For you to come on here and claim you only need 500 fans a game to break even is about a ridiculous claim as you’ve made.
 
Laughably the council awarded the club a bit of old wood from the velodrome as they were one of the runners up in the club of the club of the year awards at the councils sport awards. It’s not really a level playing field & I feel a bit sorry for the other clubs in the city who have lived within their means, who haven’t enjoyed the council giving them so much leniency on not repaying their loans & council staff co-opted on to their board.

Despite our Czech friend showing us that the opposition weren’t as good as M40 was claiming, that the fenix is a bit of a joke, an invitational tournament that selects sides based on things like how many YouTube subscribers they have they parade their ridiculous trophies next to historic proper cups

FC United never wanted to be based in Moston, or at Broadhurst Park. The club wanted to be based on Ten Acres Lane in Newton Heath. Planning permission was applied for, and there was an objection, from Manchester City Football Club, which led to the Broadhurst Park site being used. As a result of this objection, there ended up being a shortfall of around £1.4m that was unaccounted for - ultimately the council then footed the bill for this. FC United clearly haven't paid this back in full. From the figures people have kindly collected from freedom of information it would appear that FC United appear to have paid off around £400k-£500k over around a 10 year period. £40k-£50k a year or around £3.5k-£4.5k a month, possibly more considering interest. Suppose the irony of the situation is that all the things that people want to complain about - rinsing the council, being based in Moston etc - never would have happened if it wasn't for Manchester City Football Club, so when you trace it back with a bit of due dilligence that who is ultimtely to blame.

That Ten Acres Lane site that was original proposed is....still a piece of wasteland. So suppose again that can be attributed to Manchester City Football Club. On the face of it, it looks like Manchester City Council are actually in the pockets of the rich, not the poor, and are serving the interests of the rich foreign investor rather than the local Mancunian man. That's the price you pay for success though eh.

All FC United is is a bunch of fans who became disillusioned with the club they supported and top flight football. There's the argument that gets thrown about such as "Why not support another local non-league club". Why? Well why would you if you feel as if you have no affiliation to that club. Suppose fans could have gone to someone like Hyde United, but then they sold out and got bought by....you guessed it, Manchester City Football Club. Have to wonder how Hyde fans felt when that happened.

Should also be noted their playing budget is in the bottom 30% in their league. The council manage this and have a say in it, so ir removes the chance of any big budget spending.

Just worth thinking about that every complaint that is on here about FC United, other than the fanbase wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the actions of Manchester City Football Club and it's ownerships objection to the Ten Acres Lane site. So if Mancunians are missing out on council funding as it's claimed here, that's just a knock on effect of Manchester City's objecttion to a non-league club setting up. Suppose there's nothing more Mancunian than being the big rich guy standing in the way of the little guy though....

I have no idea whether you have been fucked off or not, but I thought I would clarify some things.

Seeing as you have an M40 post code, you should already know that no one in Newton Heath wanted FC United there. I was brought up on Edenbridge Rd, which is just off TAL. I owned my house on Hethorn St for 18 years. I am as Newton Heath as you can get and was there for 42 years. Thats far longer than the Newton Heath football team were there.

The general consensus in the town was that FC United were not wanted. There were campaigns ongoing, trying to stop the TAL project. FC United moving in there presented absolutely no benefit to local residents and was a disaster waiting to happen.

No one in Newton Heath owed FC United anything and FC United had absolutely no divine right to play there. If FC United spunked a load of money on that proposal, then that is their own fault. They were not wanted in that area.

However the council arrived at their decision does not matter. The people of Newton Heath did not want FC United there.

There is a reason FC United get piss poor crowds and that because no one in the M40 area gives a toss about them.

People support City or United.

Because that's the actual figure. MCC are repaid every month with a direct debit.

Yeah, point taken. Roughly 14,000 people live in M40, our average attendance is 1,600-1,700. It suggests more than 10% of the local area are happy to attend.
