You've got to feel sorry for them or should we just laugh :)

The board have done themselves no favours in this latest entry to the catalogue of fuck ups. The main speaker with the microphone did his best to dance around the real issues of why the GM had to be adjourned.
Agreed - the very fact that he entertained the possibility of carrying on ("in my personal opinion it is likely to only impact a small number of votes") was extremely telling.
Regardless of the catalogue of procedural cock-ups (votes at the membership stall going missing, postal votes perhaps not included, the potential for double voting etc), I find it staggering that the Board could not foresee the almost certainly record-breaking attendance for this particular meeting, given its importance to the club, and that:
(a) the bar space would be insufficient; and
(b) no independent scrutineer could be found
What are they discussing in Board meetings? Ensuring a robust process for convening general meetings and providing certainty over voting is the priority of any Board. We're 11 years in now, these procedures should be embedded. We're still collecting votes in cardboard boxes with sticky tape on them for fucks sake - they should be collected in locked boxes with the independent scrutineer holding the only key.
We deserve better. Much better. The case for change is only getting louder.
The only silver lining today was at least the right decision (adjournment) was made. Under similar circumstances in the past, perhaps an impassioned speech would have been enough to get the membership to allow the Board to muddle through.PPP
