FC United thread

Wtaf was that ha ha , the players actually get carried away as if they are some how relevant ffs , cringe cringe cringe , is it any wonder everybody laughs at the bucket shakers even big Nitid do .
Unfortunately, a lot of fans of other non league clubs do not laugh at the Splitters.
They seem to be admired as a community club that has risen via their own means and self-finance.
It is the sort of scam that an investigative programme such as World In Action would have unravelled.
Now, they are seen as the misunderstood underdogs.
God help clubs like Abbey Hey F.C. !

Until national journalists come out and write about what goes on at this club, David Conn’s wankathon in his book is the version of the club that most folk know about.

The romantic tale of “heroic rebel” type characters fighting for the little man against the rampant commercialisation of the game - rather than it being a group of champagne socialists pretending to be men of the people, when in reality their reputation and status has been enabled by a council who stupidly fell for the romantic tale and allowed them to proceed and indulge themselves using public money.

How very dare you! it’s not a joke, it’s a very serious well respected & fantastically organised tournament. It’s not an ego trip organised for FC by the convicted England thug to allow him and his mates to go off to shite European cities to reminisce about those happy chair chucking days. It’s not about papering over the cracks of just how shite they’ve performed in actual proper tournaments.

Look at the teams walking out in Montenegro at a ground Fans United have borrowed for the occasion, marvel at the fireworks spectacular, feel those shivers down your spine as the giants of European football take to the pitch under the lights and line up to the Champions League music & tell me this is a joke of a tournament.

I just love sarcasm. Well done.

So apparently they lost 1-0 to the team with no fans, no home etc and now play the 2nd leg on Saturday at Pallet Park.
And have scored an own goal again!
They have postponed an NPL game to play this prestigious fixture that will attract a couple of hundred to 600. Yet playing the home NPL game they’d have had maybe 1,600.
That game when rearranged for midweek will attract 1000 to 1200.
And guess what! The board will say “it was a missing game, we lost money on it, please chuck into the bucket!”
They really can’t help themselves can they!
Should have played the Euro game midweek and took the bigger gate money on the Saturday. Does anyone running the club have brains? (Stupid question, I know)

Oh to be Non League European Royalty!

Your post begs the question;
What do the 2 members of the council, who sit on the board say about it ?
Are they not reporting back saying how badly it's run, how money is being drained away leaving little chance of the council ever getting repaid?

This is wierd, I’m not usually an FC apologist but that’s not all true - they originally announced the European home game during next week. This Saturday was kept free from league ties to use for any rearranged games, FC didn’t have any games they could rearrange in the time frame so they asked for permission to play the European game that should have been played midweek on a Saturday instead. It was a blank Saturday and nothing was postponed.

You’re right there’s been no mention of the “bonus” Saturday afternoon fixture despite them still loudly pushing the missing matches campaign.

There’s some key points of the Fenix marketing that FC ignore. 1 is that each club partners with a charity to do some good and raise the profile and some cash for the chosen charity - FC have never found anyone to work with in all the years they’ve been involved. Another key point is that all Fenix games are broadcast for live & free on the Fenix YouTube channel by changing the game to a Saturday it can’t be shown

Finally, the council demanded a council representative on the board and an improvement to make reporting, particularly financial reporting more timely. I’m not convinced the council hierarchy are asking enough questions of the current excuses

Ah yes. I checked the fixtures for the weekend and noticed they had no game and on their fixture list noted a game at home to Gainsborough was to be arranged and assumed they’d cancelled it for this euro game. I just checked the fixtures again and see Gainsborough have a game elsewhere. Thanks for the correction.

So if they don’t have a charity partner, where is the cash for the chosen charity going to?

Was doing my usual round up of the local non league scene and forgot the Non League European Royalty had been in action over the weekend!
A whopping crowd of 946 turned up at Pallet Park to witness a mighty 4-1 win for the Moston Rag Socks v a Montenegro Pub Team.
The Bucketeers had to pay for accommodation for the visitors so unless they all slept on the floor in sleeping bags in the function room, that expense will have swallowed up a good deal of the money. Also, under 18's and FOC's could apply for free tickets - so how many actually paid to watch the game?

Not many.

Probably got them to stay at The Holiday Inn on Oldham Road and claimed to the government that they were immigrants so they wouldn't have to pay for the accommodation

As well as the big European game there was a huge #hergametoo cup game for the FC women on Sunday as part of the celebrations for international women’s day. the team ran out in front of 60 people at Pallet Park. The bucketeers women’s team were managing to draw for a change so the game went to extra time before it got abandoned by the ref with ten minutes to go as both teams & benches started a brawl. To top it off the FC women’s team also had a three point deduction in the league for fielding an ineligible player back in October. They have one game to go and sit bottom of the league, facing back to back relegations.

For anyone not familiar with the bucketeers women’s team they are as much of a failure as the men. Following the success of the women’s international team and the rise of the profile of the women’s game the bucketeers thought they could definitely cash in whilst also showing how right on & progressive they are.

They launched a girl’s academy, 1 girl signed up.

They started a wildcats session of football coaching for young girls, cancelled due to a lack of interest,

They decided to pay their women’s team, staff and ensure they play on the hallowed pallet park pitch despite most teams in their league playing on 3G pitches so they can show how progressive they are.

The average attendance is around 80 for the year, which doesn’t seem worth opening the ground for. Looking at the most recent accounts by the end of December the serial losers on the women’s team have lost the club £12,500 in the first 6 months of the year after having been budgeted to break even. Why is a struggling club constantly shaking buckets and struggling to pay staff and bills losing so much on a women’s team that nobody bothers watching?

LOL
Year to date key points:
A lack of community sponsor continues to be a main concern.

Drivers in monthly performance:
Income was 4K adverse to plan drive by lack of sponsor.
The planned assumption is that the women's team breaks even.

It's all pie in the sky planning. Or more like head in the clouds.

Do the two council representatives actually attend meetings? How do they either keep a straight face or not tear their hair out (assuming they aren't bald) and say ''enough is enough of this whole charade.''

It seems to be a vanity project.

Another high quality night of European football in the fenix tonight where they’re unsurprisingly playing in a snowstorm & didn’t bother getting an orange ball or scraping out the lines

As a 62 Y/O who's on the waiting list for a replacement knee, the few minutes of watching that gives me great hope that my playing football days aren't over
