FCUM fans urged to invest

What I dont understand, and I have a couple of friends who have been involved with FC from the very begining, is that this is ANOTHER club. Why would a football fan change and support, even at the same time, a different club?

I've always said that if City went bust, and we very nearly did, I would not bother with football again. I'd watch it on the telly but my club would be gone. The football love of my life would be dead.

If City pissed me off so much that I couldnt or wouldnt go anymore that would be it. I wouldn't set up another little pretendy club of my own. And call it City. It's just mad.

I therefore come to the conclusion that these guys are not mad or bad. They are just not real football fans. This is politics and they should point this out to the dwindling bunch who still bother to go up to to Bury.

I'm not likening FCUM to AFC Wimbledon, but if City were faced with the MK Dons situation and were moved, and a new club was set up AFC Manchester City, what would you do ?

There are legitimate reasons why fans might set up a new club, and AFC Wimbledon is a good example of that, whilst FCUM isn't one of them. I can see both sides of the FCUM argument, and understand to some degree why it was set up, many of the "hardcore" united fans were already disillusioned with united (and football more generally - it wasn't as simple as not winning trophies, or glazer doing his own thing), and saw this as a new way to have a football club owned and run by the fans, for the fans. However when it came down to it many couldn't remove "united" from their system, and no matter how good the buzz is, watching NW Counties football is not quite the same as a champions league final is it ? So ultimately they still follow united as well, many by still going to games, so its a myth it was really about their football fix, and for that reason they are not true supporters of either club. I also know that quite a few saw it as a chance to carry on their "hardcore" united activities, outside of mainstream football in a lower profile, and its hard to have anything but contempt for them, especially when they have gone to small clubs and intimidated them, causing mayhem in places simply not set up for it.

I hope that they fail to raise enough money, or get planning permission for a stadium, because while they may have put some much needed gate money into the coffers of local clubs for one season, they haven't actually helped or added anything to grass roots football at all.

Its all a bit rich when their fans come on here and then complain about City buying trophies (maybe one day), when that is just what they've done at the lower level, much like their former club have also done.

I'd walk away. AFC Manchester City could never replace Manchester City.

Fair enough, thats your opinion.

Its funny though because there are protests going in the ground yet when City fans look at this the usual comment is something like "stupid rags, they want the Glazers out but are still filling the ground, giving them money, lolzzz, YCNMI etc"
So we have provided a different option where they dont have to give the Glazers money and hopefully lead to them having to consider selling and the response is "typical rags, no loyalty, spit on their club etc"

Seems a no win situation but there you go, i'm not trying to win anyones approval. I would however like to know what you would do given the circumstances seeing as you have the answer to everything,

And please dont question my loyalty, you have no idea how long i was following United, i've seen the lows as well as the highs just like you.

What we would have done?

We protested again both Peter Swales and Thaskin Shinawatra. The former was a guy who single handedly dismantled our league winning team and dumped us into a shit financially, the latter was a human rights violator who was using us as a political tool.

We didn't run off and for FC City, and the thought never once crossed the mind of most. We protested because we love our club and didn't like the current regime. However, we never turned our backs on it. The club is bigger than its owners.

And I can't question your loyalty, as turning your back on your own club, your own history, shows that you have none. I don't care whether you were there when you were shit, it's a different time now with different problems.

Also, yes, different fans have different opinions. I have no problems with the Green and Gold lot specifically, they are voicing their opinion WHILST STILL SUPPORTING THE CLUB.

What are you going to do if FC United become successful and work within the realities of football then? Run off and form United Manchester FC?

The fact is, you went off to form a club that will sail through unchallenged simply because United stopped sailing through unchallenged and most of you had gotten so used to this, that this ending meant that you couldn't go into work and tell all your mates about how massive of a fan you are and how you twatted somebody 6-0.

This is the thing, you HAVEN'T provided another option. Putting money into FCU isn't helping or supporting United at all. It's like saying that City will provide an option by selling you some season tickets. You are not United, you are not helping United, you have no roots with United and you never will be. You are nomads, a club built on a bunch of pathetic turncoats.

None of you FCUM fans will ever get any love from me simply because you are all a pack of traitors, hooligans or gloryhunters and will always be known as such.

Apologies - I dont recall the mass protests against Shiniwatra (spelling) As I rememeber he was wel recieved with fans singing for him because he finally provided your club with some money to compete.

I dont go to MUFC matches anymore, that doesn't mean I dont still watch them with mates in the pub, it would be impossible for me to turn my back completely because I have spent so long folowing them, please stop making out that your fans are so superior than ours regarding loyalty. As for calling me a gloryhunter, I cant understand how youve reached that one, do you think I come dancing into work on a monday singing about how FC have beaten some tiny little club in some league that no one gives a sh1t about. Its never been about glory, its nice when it comes along but its not the main thing for me. I was part of the group that campaigned to stop BSkyB buying us, can you imagine what MUFC would be like now if we were owned by the group that basically own football in this country. I'd go as far as saying that there isn't one other club in this country who wouldn't welcome sky buying them but we didn't want it.

Of course you could spend more because you were successful, but you also became so successful on the back of becoming a PLC, the Premier League and Champions League revenue, and lets face it getting very lucky with a team of youngsters that you brought in on what exceptional money at the time for youth players.

I was never comparing the two. I never mentioned Keane either.

Funny thing is, you started posting on this thread as a FCUM follower, and yet you've never really addressed any of the points made on FCUM, just turning it into a (rather bitter if you don't mind me saying) rant about City being able to spend money and being given a ground.

I have addressed the points RE FC United. I've explained why it was formed etc but you have your own ideas about this and its obvious i'm not going to change this.

I say it was formed as a protest to MUFC being saddled with debt and owners who couldn't care less about the future of the club, a way of fans to feel part of a club again, but your beliefs are we abandoned the team because we hadn't won the league for 2 years. Fair enough if you truly believe that, i'd ask that you give some United fans a bit of credit though (if possible)

Anyway i'll be supporting the ground development. Will be a big step for the club so who knows

You seem to keep blaming it on the owners. What about the person who actually got you in this whole mess?

They didnt want Sky buying them but they went mad for Michael Knighton? I suppose he was an improvement on the purveyor of rotten meat.

And let us not forget who was responsible for the selling of their club to the yanks. The Irish guys who Fergie tried to screw over. If it wasnt for his greed, the club wouldnt be in the hands of the Yanks and be millions of pounds in debt now.

They might not admit it but reds know this to be the truth.

I take it you mean Fergie - he could have ended it all before it started by not welcoming the owners as it was sad a takeover would only go through with his support. I agree its been a kick in the teeth watching him turn from the 'socialist' he claims to be to backing these tw@ts in light of their obvious disregard for the roots of the club.

His choice though, when he finally calls it a day i think he may have some regrets imo

At first, certainly. The more time he spent here, the more the news came out about him and there were many fans entirely pissed at him and protesting.

I dont go to MUFC matches anymore, that doesn't mean I dont still watch them with mates in the pub, it would be impossible for me to turn my back completely because I have spent so long folowing them, please stop making out that your fans are so superior than ours regarding loyalty.

Our fans are superior to FCUM fans. So are Sunderland fans, Pompey fans, Chelsea fans, Liverpool fans, Stalybridge fans, basically every fan in the world is better than you lot.

This is a concept that I know you are struggling with, so I'll try to be even blunter.

You have no loyalty. You claims of loyalty towards United disappeared the moment that FCUM was formed and you followed them instead of the club that you were supposed to be loyal to.

I watch Arsenal in the pub with my mate, and Barca. It doesn't make me an Arsenal or Barca fan.

I'd go as far as saying that there isn't one other club in this country who wouldn't welcome sky buying them but we didn't want it.

What an incredibly arrogant and clueless thing to say. I see you are at least fitting the stereotype of the FCUM lot.

How come he never gets any grief over it though? It's always the Glazers fault.
