I thought the big one he was aiming for was biggest free fall which he failed so I can see him being disapointed on the inside. Still don't get how he failed that though since he jumped from a higher altitude.

''Longest duration'', not ''biggest''. If that is the case, he did 'fail' as he deployed the chute before the target elapsed time.

Or to put it another way, he prematurely ejaculated.

Yeah they were saying he was supposed to deploy the chute at 5000 feet but I think his visor steamed up so naturally he pulled his chute rather than doing it blind.

It does annoy me that some of the people that watched Felix jump from space will say that science is boring at some point in their lives.

'Science' is a very broad subject though.

An incredible achievement.

Though seeing figures quoted at 729mph, it depends on when he deployed his chute as to if he broke the speed of sound.

729 mph is the speed of sound at an altitude of about 10,000-15,000ft. So it depends on if he was travelling at that speed, at that altitude. It's a bit more complicated than just achieving a certain speed before he opened his chute.

The speed of sound at sea level is 761 mph, I believe. So it seems he hasn't achieved what we would call 'mach-1'.

He has not "Failed" anything. The plan was to make the highest ever free fall jump and in the process provided scientific data to help future space launches establish a "bail out" procedure at high altitudes. To accomplish this he would be breaking various records as a side effect, one of them being the longest free fall jump. This was not a goal more of an achievement.

He actually broke records for highest altitude jump, fastest free fall and highest manned balloon flight. I do not think he will be disappointed at all in relation to the possibility of the longest free fall jump. His safety came first and because of the visor issues he raised early on I guess she knew this would have an impact.

It is, and it can be argued that the science gained from this pales in comparison to the publicity for a drink.

Still you need nadgers the size of the moon and it was compelling.

He reached that speed after about 40 seconds so should have been high enough (40,000ft?) to break Mach-1.
