Fernandinho - 2018/19 Performances

Hopefully he can do another good season but I fear we are asking too much from a 33 year old. Really should be a squad player this season.

He gets asked to run his socks off for us week after week. The most underrated player of the Prem over the past couple of seasons. Super fit player.

Only when Kev came on did he have any support picking the ball up as Gundogan left him doing everything alone.

A couple errors here and there sure, but he got loads right.

Some of you have far too high standards, especially if you're unsure about Fern's performance.

Unaware of Ramsey closing him down one time he got robbed. Other than that very good, no sign of the predicted arthritis setting in just yet.

Thought he was brilliant and had to cover for a lot Gundog's shit

Not at all.Do you think Gundogans lack of midfield awareness aided Fernandinhos game and subsequently our team as a whole?
You framed the question to ellicit the answer you want. 'lack of midfield awareness' is an opinion not a fact. But to state a different opinion: both Fernandihno and Gundogan's lack of sharpness did not aid our team as a whole. Correct!

The midfield 3 we're very poor. Had Bernado not moved outside and scored a goal, he'd have been even worse than the other 2.

All three were uninfluential, and none of them helped us wrestle or maintain possession. But one didn't 'cause' the poor play of the other.

Gundogan didn't stop Dihno from making a single tackle all game, or winning a header. Didn't cause him to misplace 2 passes in dangerous areas.

Just like Dihno didn't cause Ilkay to miscontrol the ball or miss open easy passes on break aways.

Each players errors and show of rust was of their own doing. Not someone else's.

Of course, this is just my humble opinion :)

In the documentary when he's talking about his renewal, Fernandinho says he's not interested in going anywhere new and his wife and son love it here and have lots of friends.

Sounds like he might stick around after his playing career. I hope so, everything we ever hear about him even from his time in Shakhtar makes him come across as the kind of person you want to keep hold of.

We really need a suitable backup and indeed future replacement (considering his age) for Fernandinho. He's amazing at breaking up play and is unique in our midfield in the ability to do so. We can cope with a random player at DM against most opposition - but we'd be better off with Fernandinho playing nonetheless; and this will cost us points during the 38-game P/L season.

Fernandinho can spot danger, sprint back even when initially out of position and break up play - none of our putative DMs come anywhere close to his ability in this regard.
