Whenever we sign someone, there are always people out saying we could sign someone better. Maybe so, but those players might not be available and signing the most prolific players doesn't always work.

When Bayern Munich signed Luiz Gustavo their fans probably thought "We could have signed someone better". But he has done a good job there.

i know that, but what im talking about is spotting talent, like dortmund have done with gundogan. They spotted a young player who has now turned in to a world class player, thats what we should be doing.

According to a well-placed source, the transfer is “nearly there”. Contacted on Tuesday night, Fernandinho said he would not comment on the proposed move to City.

Regarded within the game as one of the most complete midfielders in Europe football, Fernandinho has been central to Shakhtar Donetsk's strong Champions League performances in recent seasons. Brought to the Ukraine from Atletico Paranaense in 2005 as part of Shakhtar's policy of recruiting some of the best young Brazilian talent, a more general appreciation of his quality has been hampered by spending eight seasons Eastern Europe

In 2011, Chelsea attempted to sign Fernandinho on the recommendation of then-manager Andre Villas-Boas. Last summer Shakhtar's billionaire owner Rinat Akhmetov quoted another Premier League club a price of €50million for his most valued player, then proceeded to offer the Brazilian an improved contract worth a minimum of €4m a year after-tax.

That Fernandinho elected not to extend his deal beyond 2016 reflects the midfielder's desire to move to one of Europe's grander leagues and his aim of establishing himself in Brazil's national team. The 27-year-old has made just five Selecao appearances and has so far been ignored by Luiz Felipe Scolari, the coach charged with reinvigorating the host team for next summer's World Cup.

“I've always had that desire,” said Fernandinho in an interview earlier this year. “I cannot say that I am never going to leave Shakhtar. If an offer arrives that is good for me and the club, I'll sit down and talk with the director and we will try to reach an agreement so I can try to broaden my career in Europe. The goal remains - to play in the Confederations Cup and the World Cup.”

At City, he would allow Yaya Toure – recently granted a lucrative contract extension by the club's new executive team – to take on a more attacking role. Begiristain and chief executive Ferran Soriano are prepared to sell Gareth Barry and have not been greatly impressed by the contribution of Javi Garcia, an August deadline-day signing from Benfica.

When Yaya starts in that position I dont think he is as effective. I feel he is better when he is moved forward as sides adapt to him playing deep and suddenly he is pushed forward and they cant cope.

Selling Barry would make perfect sense if we replaced him with better,of course,that could be said for all.

If we signed Isco instead of a winger such as Reus, I would actually be quite annoyed. Obvious that we are crying out for a bit of pace and penetration.
