Fernando Torres

this could be good news for city because if we have an agreement with carlos allowing him to leave in the summer then i am pretty sure we would be in for torres now. the fact that it seems we are not may go some way to proving that there is any such agreement. which is good news

Agreed, are there many out there who like me believe Tevez will still be a City player next season?

Would love to see this vs west brom 05/02/11 though;

______________Hart_______________

Boateng____Kolo___Kompany__Kolorov

_____AJ_______Yaya______Silva_____

____Torres_____Dzeko_____Tevez____

i would imagine the line up would look more like this

------------------Hart------------------
-----------toure-------kompany---------
Zabaletta-------------------------Kolarov
-----------------dejong------------------
------yaya-----------------silva----------
-----------------tevez-------------------
---------dzeko----------torres------------

giving tevez a sort of free role and the full backs the run of the wings

Some on Twitter saying it could be a done deal on Monday.

His first game could be on February 6th.

Against Liverpool.

City were linked in the Summer with Torres and I wasn't keen then because of his form.

Maybe he's "unhappy", but would you pay £40 plus million for a player with a poor attitude problem who hasn't played consistently well for over 12 months? His game might not have dipped as far as Rooney, but this is a panic-buy from Chelsea who fear they may not get into the Champions League

They have reined in their spending over the last couple of years, possibly with an eye on the break-even regulations, but now when they are in danger of being eclipsed by Spurs and City they have no alternative but to get the cheque book out again.

Some suggestion that Anelka may move as part of the deal. I can't see Anelka agreeing and long term would be a bad move for Liverpool anyway as he will be 32 in March. He will be half the player when that half a yard of pace fades.

Surely he will be a Chelsea player by next weekend.

Every player has their price with few exceptions (Messi being one of them) and it is a matter of Chelsea meeting Liverpools valuation. There is no point in Liverpool keeping him and they might aswell cash in on him and restrengthen in the summer. They have Suarez, they should convince Anelka to come and that should be enough to push them into Europe probably.

Why would Anelka agree?

I don't know what anyone else thinks, but to me there is something strange going on at Chelsea, from the Wilkins saga and the drop in form, to all this transfer activity with no prevail.
Pienaar rejected them, Luiz fell through and I can't really see them getting Torres, not in this window anyway.

To be honest, I'd wish we'd go in for Torres, amazing player who is finding his form again.
He could join us as Tevez future replacement without the need to move home either.

Simple reason Marvin. If Chelsea sign Torres then he is hardly going to drop Drogba, he will drop Anelka. Yes, grant, he could probably rotate them game to game but at the end of the day he is almost 32 and coming up to retirement. What better way to get first team football at a team you've played for previously, get another signing on fee plus making more money for his troublesome agent and doing his upmost to get his former club back into the top four next season? It just makes sense to me.

Liverpool have started winning again and they're on the verge of the Europa League places which is quite an achievement given how shit they've been. Saurez and Anelka could be the strikers they need to push them that bit further to gauruntee European football next season.

No one wants to play in the Europa League when they can fight for titles and play in the Champions League

Anelka walked out on City because he wanted to play at the highest level. On that basis I can't see him swapping CFC for LFC

No he left City for religious reasons, hence the motive behind joining Fenerbache. He wanted to go to the Middle East if I'm not mistaken but it was too big a step down so he went to the next best thing a Muslim footballer could do; he went to Turkey.

I have an account with Betfair and they are still giving odds of 1.81 Torres will stay and odds of 1.91 he will go. Given he has handed in a transfer request the latter seems a very good bet to me! Liverpool havent got rich backers and can't afford to keep an unhappy player.
(Also Betfair are giving 3.6 odds on Mourinho being the next United manager. IMHO this is the nearest thing to being a "dead cert" and I have put a big bet on it.)

Is he worth £50m

yes he is the best out and out goal scorer on his day i have ever seen and for us he would be sensational, worst thing we could do is let chelsea sign him especially as we have dzeko, tevez, mario and jo 2 of which are injured and jo may aswell be. torres would gaurantee us silverwhere and take the pressure of edin and carlos.

id do a redknapp and put an offer in for him even if we have no intention of signing him

mate of mine whos an Anfield regular posted me on FB, one scouse forum or blog saying that "sources" from within the club say city are offering 75 mill deal including players. ive said its bullshit but hes hoping its true cos they are fed up of him. personally i dont believe it.

Dont see why we would bid 75mil when Chelsea have bid 35mil / 40mil
