Fernando

I'll hold my hands up, normally gets a slating from me but tonight he was immense with his tackling and interceptions. Best game Ive seen him play for us. More of that please octopus

What a fucking colossal performance from him, and actually the same has happened at Kyiv and in Paris, apart from that shocking mistake (he lost the ball again tonight before Cavani's chance, which was probably their only real goalscoring opportunity, but boy, he as fucking everywhere and tackled everyone throughout the entire game).

Having that said, I'm having a hard time imagining him in Pep's team (he never really had a 'specialist' DM in his squad in his entire coaching career, and got immediately rid of Luiz Gustavo, who is one of the best players in this regard), so that's sort of the same nice swan-song for him in the CL as it is for Pellegrini.

He's been like this all season when used correctly. Fernando has had more of an impact on our defensive stability than kompany it's just harder to see as without kompany he usually has to try and cover for otamendi and his wayward positioning. Delighted he's finally getting thr recognition he's merited. And most likely from the same people telling him to get out of this club not long ago. You'll never get passed Fernando!

Brilliant tonight . At one point I thought "what are you doing all the way up there" when we lost the ball in their half, only for him five seconds later yo have won the ball back in our own half.

More of this please

*past. Nothing else wrong with that post.

I'm beginning to think he's been being played out of position. Or not had the people around him to let him do his job.

In the games he's stood out, and by that I mean the best player on the football pitch, he's been used correctly, i.e what we fucking bought him for.

It's the two Ferns that give us any kind of a chance in the competition. They're a superb combination, especially in Europe and in the away leg of the semi they give us a chance of getting something from the game whoever it's against.

He's the reincarnation of Nigel de Jong. Maybe not the most gifted player in the team but does one specific job and does it very well. I've said this all along that if you just stick him in front of the back four, and him and the centre backs keep that triangle instead of rushing all over the place, he's so solid.

Its the formation most of us have been crying out for all season,it offers the team, and in particular, our centre halves, far greater protection and extra time on the ball.
I think the only decision our best 11 needs.....is when to include Yaya.

I know how kindly we remember NDJ and always cry out for him, and I loved him too, but I'm not too sure I ever saw him doing THIS brilliantly. He was great at defending and tackling, more mobile and better at passing, but the way Fernando pressed PSG's players was something he lacked, and that was pivotal yesterday.

It just shows the difference between Champions League football & the frenzy of the Premier League.
He was immense last night and has shown great mental strength after the howler in Paris.
He's an absolute gent too as they all are.

Maybe he's been training with the Leceister nutritionists? Such is his dramatic improvement over the past few months and particularly last night.

Nice to see someone I harsely slated prove me wrong.

I don't think the difference is the opposition as much as our tactics.

We are so much smarter in the CL, not setting out to simply outscoring the opposition.

If we could bring this mentality into the big games in the PL - especially away from home- we would be on our way to another league title.
