Ferran Soriano & Txiki Begiristain

Can't see a huge overhaul of the squad this summer, particularly as we'll probably be limited to a net spend of about £50m again.

If we can ship out the likes of Toure and some of our Baltic players for decent money we should be able to freshen up our attack, left-back position and maybe also centre midfield well enough, perhaps one big name player such as Koke if all the chips fall.

That's probably all we need to do to improve majorly next season anyway (buy a Toure that will actually defend, a left-back that will play in a consistent back four and buy a pacy attacker or two that will give us an extra dimension to keep the opposition guessing).

Summer 2016 I think will be the big'un.

Txiki's transfer record at Barcelona was quite patchy if you ask me, especially with signings 20m+.

I would be interested to see the team he would have helped built had Barcelona not inherited the likes of Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Busquets, Pedro, Valdes etc...

Let's not forget he would have sanctioned selling Fabergas to Arsenal and Pique to United only for the club to end up buying them back for close to 50m, I hope he doesn't end up doing the same with some of our youngsters.

I think Txiki was primarily appointed DOF at City to implement a philosophy throughout the club and give it a direction and pathway to work with.

Actually Barca didn't sell them. There was some stupid law in Spain about not being able to offer professional terms to them until they were 18 or something which didn't exist in England so they were essentially stolen and some judge determined compensation.

That might not be accurate but I remember Barca going mad when Fabregas left and how the Spanish system was causing them to lose players.

Depressing isn't it but unfortunately that looks about right for Txixis form in the market. Still some still wouldnt notice that the emperors stark bollock naked apart from a Barca scarf

In my opinion he's just here as a WUM, and it works because people keep biting.

Too many to list but a link to Barcelona's transfer whilst Txiki was there.

2 or arguably 3 were hits(Rustu, GVB and Ronaldinho) the rest were misses.

Perhaps this thread ought to be split in two as these guys are doing very different jobs.

As we appear to be getting richer and richer off the field Soriani is doing excellent work.

As we also appear to be buying poorer quality players under Txiki than before he arrived I would say he is not doing so well.

Pellegini is an above average manager who should be in charge of a club with less ambition than City. Only Txiki and Ferran will know if all other possible options were unavailable at the time Mancini was sacked.

Very true. Soriano has done very well for us, Txiki has been very hit and miss.

Can anyone tell me how much either of these are involved in our youth set up? and perhaps in what way?

eh?

Davids was key in the short time he was there, Marquez played over 200 times for them, Belletti was good and ended up at Chelsea, Deco, Eto'o, Giuly was value for money, Abidal, Dani Alves, Keita, Pique etc. Yeah there were a fair number that didn't work, but nowhere near as bad as some are trying to make out.
