Feyenoord (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

How bad are we all expecting this to get as the season progresses?

I'm not sure we are going to sign anyone in January

Right now CL looks like 2 extra games before being knocked out in the first knockout games

Prem I can see 3rd/4th at best possibly as far down as 7th
I think it will get worse before it gets better, we might have to accept that we could be playing europa league football next season. We've been spoilt recent seasons so what will be will be.

Feel worse after this than I did after Saturday.

Literally any team can cause us problems at the moment, although alot of the issues are self inflicted.

Just watched the 3 goals back again, it's quite astonishing we are talking about the Premier league champions and CL winners 18 months ago. It's dog and duck stuff.
Teams decline, sure. But the difference between what was a few months ago, and what is now is not a decline. I have no idea what it is. Jumping off a cliff? Fuck knows. It's nuts.

Not a single person would have envisaged that last 15 mins. It changed when the subs came on but I'm not directly blaming them. I'm at a loss to fathom what the fuck actually happened in our defence for those 3 goals.

They just had to play it safe, keep the ball and see out the game. Then Gvardiol criminally plays an absolute hospital ball and it's 3-1. You could visibly see the panic and loss of belief grip them from the minute the ball hit our net. All old hand blues just knew what was coming from there.

Shite ending to a game we actually did alright in, not brilliantly in, just alright in up until their first goal and then it was as clear as day we’d crumble.

He was right to make changes at 3 nil with 15 minutes to go against a team that hadn’t troubled us whatsoever until they scored. But those frailties are going to be exposed time and again unfortunately. I wouldn't have expected our under 13’s to draw the game from that point in all honesty with some proper game management.

Individual mistakes gave those goals away tonight. But with a team low on confidence as soon as that first goes in we should have shut up shop, changed the shape and let the game run its course. Instead we just carried on with plan A, as it’s the only plan we have and well, you know the rest.

Our defensive shape is non existent and if we do bother to make a challenge it’s an apologetic one. I’d fucking love to know what we do in training. I suspect it’s rondo, rondo and a bit of rondo. We sure as hell aren’t practicing defensive work.

I’d play a 4 5 1 on Sunday, but actually a back 4. Not wing backs, inverted midfielders or any other complicated shit, not because it’s the scousers, but because we need to shore it up and stop the rot and the players we have currently available cannot defend whilst playing in this system. We saw tonight on occasion, admittedly against weaker opposition than usual, that if we play forward passes instead of twatting about side to side for 6 minutes to gain 40 yards we can actually create real chances, so going heavier at the back should help us in more ways than one.
Good post
I am totally at a loss as to why we don’t make any tackles. We have forgotten how to put our foot in. Rodri is a big miss in this respect.
We’ve always had enforcers in the middle and desperately need one in the January window. Dinho where art thou…

Regardless of the shitshow at the end to capitulate and throw away a 3 goal lead it wasn't good enough even if the game had ended after 75 minutes. There was no real change from the last 5 games, Nunes definitely made a difference but its not enough, the opposition were weaker than the others and we scored a penalty and a corner that gave us a sunnier picture than the reality at 3-0.

As I've been banging on for weeks, the structure is badly wrong, Peps words and his actions to date or lack of, are concerning because he doesn't seem to think that's the issue. As i've also said for many weeks, this will continue until it changes.

We really should send the EDS to the next two games in this compeition in psg and juve away. Fuck them off, beat Brugge at home last game and we've got a play off spot and then we just play two games in Feb that we didn't bother with in a tougher December and given that will be 2 legged it will be an easier set of fixtures than juve and psg away. Top 8 is a big ask now, we'll need to win all 3 and even then it might not be enough so why bother expending energy with such a shot squad, It really makes no sense, rest everybody in this competition until the end of January now.
