Feyenoord (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Enjoying is too far, I agree. And I’m not being nostalgic - wasn’t it great when we were shit- but you really find out who you are when adversity kicks in (and boy has it ever kicked in). I’m not trying to be provocative or positive but this is happening and I am trying to deal with it. That’s all.

I'm not sure we were quite this bad but you are right. I remember thinking we'd be lucky if we won one trophy and made the top four we were underperforming so badly. The difference is this team are all two years older and certainly without Rodri we don't have it in us to put a fifteen game winning run together. After Sunday it will probably be too late anyway. We'll be eleven points behind Liverpool and we aren't making that up. Obviously I pray I am eating these words in a few weeks but sadly I don't think I will.
Not mad, angry or any of that stuff. Just realistic. We will lose at Juve and PSG. Pray 11 points gets us in the top 24.
In the league we are in a dogfight for a top 4 spot, really a 4th spot, as we will finish behind Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea. If we don't finish in a CL spot our recruitment will be fucked. This fuck of a season has the potential to basically destroy our position as an elite club not just now but going forward. Again not being negative, simply objective about the reality of our situation.
If we don't make the top 4 we become much less important to the PL and the cartel might even have the juice to entice the hearing panel to fuck us right off.
Txiki AND PEP played with fire relying on such a small squad to stay healthy knowing many of our key players are older and in decline and that our depth players are not up to standard. This knowing Pep is not the guy to be driving a truck if need be. He's proven numerous times over he can roll with a Ferrari but doing more with less is just not his forte. He can't get this side to grind out anything. Pep is built for a squad with elite talent all over the pitch. He has no chance of getting anything out of this shell of a squad that he and Txiki chose to go with. These guys aren't going to overcome his idiosyncrasies or go on any long unbeaten runs that we seem to need every year. One needs a squad of elite players to do that.
It is what it is boys and girls. Why the club chose this path or allowed Pep and Txiki to do so God only knows,
But my Lord did we rock for 7 years under the bald fraud!!!!

What the fuck is going on?
Players look broken.
Subs were a disaster - not that any of them were particularly at fault but the whole mindset changed.
McAtee was at fault for one of the goals, sloppily losing the ball in midfield, too weak. And the young lad Simpson is nowhere near ready, he had to be cajoled by KDB to move into space… and didn’t.. If Pep wants to give minutes to players, it should have been Dias, in preparation for Sunday. Those subs were stupid, unnecessary, arrogant & disruptive. The team was well on top. He has a habit of doing this when he thinks the game is won; however he couldn’t have imagined the mess it caused.

I was ok until tonight. I hated it due to throwing it away.

Truth is it's not just one thing, there a multiple causes....
1 Rodri, no explanation required
2 Conditioning, why our fitness levels are so bad is hard to fathom. We just do not seem to have a 90+ min performance in us. I can just about remember when the last 15 would be when we'd smash teams. Now we are totally fucked in most games after 60 mins.
3 Injuries, missing Stones, Ake, Kova, Dias, KDB, Doku as well as Rodri and Bobb has not helped.
4 Loss of Form, Gundo, Foden, Bernardo, Grealish, Gvardiol and Akanji all way way off top form, why so many at once? once again unfathomable
5 Finishing, the number of chances we fail to convert is off the scale, the loss of Alvarez's GAs is huge, without Erling we'd be totally screwed
6 Sounds wimpish, but convinced we have been as unlucky as I have ever seen. Tonight eg those deflections in the first all going out, with a bit of luck we could have gone in 4 up at HT.
7 Forced into playing younger, inexperienced players like JSP, OReilly and Wright in a shit storm is the worst possible scenario. They would have to be exceptionally good to deal with the challenge.

A work of art indeed.
